Raistlin, you have the seal pup elite I want, satin plain edge  I just, I had a CE tini already, and it was good, but because I've had one, re-getting one loses priority.

I was hesitant to buy it at first because of SOG's reputation--they catch a lot of flak for the mall ninja like new stuff they seem to be coming out with.  But it's a heck of a knife, especially at it's <$50 price (Amazon). Going hiking and want to keep the weight down as much as possible? This is a lot of knife for the weight, and I think it has a very good balance to it. No wonder it's kind of a classic now.

I should probably be quiet. Probably preaching to the choir

I badly want a SOG Agency........but the price!  :ahhh

Nice blades everybody!  :salute:

I only had a bit of time yesterday for the GI Tanto I'm restoring&pimping for a friend, he already turned it into a two-tone blade with a sander, so I took the rest of the coating off as well.

I bought new paint stripper, I badly want to, but I'm finding it very difficult to strip the BK2 and BK9

 Also convinced myself there's an ESEE-sized hole in my collection......abandon hope all ye who enter here!

So you're gettin ready to go down the ESEE rabbit hole G? Do we need to send in the HSLD (high speed low drag) boys to rescue you?   :D    I hear there good knives but for some reason they don't appeal to me.   :)

I feel (with relief) I'm starting to reach saturation point, and it looks like good parts of my disposable income will be heading in other directions soon.....
I wanted to get the ESEE 3,4,5 and 6, but my secret storage is full, and at time I realize the ridiculousness of it all....

Since I have a BK9 the ESEE 5 is probably out of the running, so a 6 in in Orange & Green  :ahhh sounds about right.

Fortunately I suspect sourcing an ESEE from here will be difficult.

Another problem is I can walk into local shops and choose from a huge selection of Cudemans for much less........

My advice would be to do it without a second thought. Worth it for the sheath (my original intention was buy it for the sheath for the bk9. But it won't fit with the ramp. So I decided to check out the condor. It's got a great finish, the aged hammered look, and it came sharp enough that a couple swipes on the sharpmaker had it where I wanted it. One handle scale feels thinner than the other, but are otherwise nicely finished and fit well.

Some had complaints about the 'ffg' not being ground. I was scared about getting a bar of steel with an edge, like a morbidly obese Mora. But mine both thins out slightly after the handle, and the grind is done well. Can't wait to get it into some wood, but it feels like a winner! And my first 1075 blade.

Funny how I got the scgrade schf36 on a whim, now I want the 37 and 38. Now I got this for the sheath, and I love it and want more condor! Ha!

There you go again, made me look!

Found a South African site selling them for dirt cheap, and I'm busy restoring a GI Tanto, so the love affair with 1075  price vs performance is strong again....
Another big problem.....that same site sells Kizlyar, also reasonably priced.....

jet.com has 25% off for new members, up to $50,  using code YAHOO25. Free shipping over $35. They carry some ESEE, Ka-Bar, Buck, Cold Steel, among others. Might be some good deals in there.

Oh my goodness.

It's so good.

BK9 good, damn near. It really is. So ergonomic if you choke down to a three finger grip on the bottom, it's rock solid, every strike transmits zero vibration and the grip is solid. It chopped better than my tomahawk once I got toward the center of the trees I was chopping, (white cedar and hophorn beam), and overall aaalmost as good as the bk9, which is astounding. But the condor already has the wood scales and leather sheath I want for the Becker! I'm using the bk4 sheath for the 9, without it I doubt I'd be in love as much as I am.

Which isn't to say the condor is perfect. The edge is a bit fragile, and I straightened a roll a couple times with the short steel I have. Which was easy and it fixed well and stayed sharp, but know that it wont be hair popping sharp after chopping like the bk9.

As far as cutting food, didn't do much as I usually prefer stainless for food. That being said, I sliced an apple to bits and it was lovely :D

So yeah, condor the not so surprising winner here.

Trail master wasn't mentioned for a comparison (even though it went along on the trip as well), because though it chops decently, I'd never pick it over either of the other two if I planned on trying to chop with it.

:tu:

(sorry if it's a bit rambling :D )

Thank you David!!! Had only intended on getting one but it got outta hand. The pattern is tied to happy memories for me.  There are more variations but they start getting really really scarce/expensive from here on out. I might pick another one up if I catch one reasonable but I'm about done with this pattern. The two hidden tang Craftsman need sheaths so I have to get those ordered. These are such great hunting knives...once you hold one, you want another one to put back. The weight, heft and ergonomics are just perfect. The old Schrade 1095 is awesome too!

Here's a great thread on them....lots of pics!

Too many classy knives in here, so....

Tried to finish off the Elwell Bushman, added a wood insert to the handle and got it jammed in there, can't move it!  ::)  so it’s going to stay like that for a while
Got the sheath started (that might stay like it is for a while aswell  :D)

Thinking I need one of these, a real one:

Does that count as a "fixed blade" or a "folder?"  ???

More seriously, have a SOG Seal Pup E37TN-CP on the way to go with my satin straight edge version. Jet.com has them for $49.35 + a 15% off coupon SHOPWITH15 so couldn't resist :D
