:D I was a Whitetail hunter (and Turkey, Pheasant, Quail and Dove) .  :salute: Still haven't caught sight of a hog in the daylight...have seen a ton ruts out back of the house though. Would have been an easy 50 yard shot.

Unless I missed your joke.

no joke. those just look like they are ready for some serious skinning tasks. smaller deer can be processed with a sharpened piece of tin can (buddy of mine was dumb enough to pack a carbide sharpener but not a knife)

:salute: You are on the money buddy!!!  These would handle any game in North America. That old Schrade carbon takes an unbelievable edge and the blade shape is universal enough for a variety of hunting/field tasks!!! BTW, that Uncle Henry is probably the sharpest hunting knife I own.  :ahhh

I've got a Schrade Old Timer that is maybe older than me. My family affectionately calls it the thumb splitter. So Somehow I wonder how many limbs they'd lose with the Uncle Henry

Guess I shouldn't say how I learned to feel trees (fall trees?), that hot things should not be touched or why makin' fishing hooks and shotgunning beers is not the best combination of recreational activities to do at the same time. As Brooks and Dunn would put it - hillbilly deluxe

Just got this one today. Already getting a little patina from slicing my lunch burger in half. And it fits right in that Ka-Bar 7" sheath, so I can pack it around if necessary.

That was a very popular pattern with Trappers/Mountain Men if I recall the history correctly. A near universal shape.

I'll try to re-post my Mountain Man fixed knives and we'll run with the theme.   :salute:

Some of my J Russell Green River Knives.  70's era are Carbon and SS (rare) w/ Ebony wood scales, the 80's era are SS with walnut scales. (all old pics)

70's Dadleys (The plain one on top is just like my orig 70's one and I lost a Commemorative in the fire )

80's SS Dadley I bought after the fire.

70's & 80's Dadleys

70's Skinner & a rare 70's SS Hunter

An extra carbon '76 Commemorative Hunter that had been carried when I bought it.

80's Skinners

70's Green River/CVA Hunter

History Book

'76 Commemorative (Have a full set)

The Russell Factory Historian sent me this pic of the 80's Stainless line

Green Rivers are great re-enactor knives

I'll do a new group shot soon...

Thx WD!!!    That was weird...I re-uploaded it. The carbon steel is awesome and the SS is 440A with an amazing heat treat that Dexter Russell uses on their HD industrial knives. That SS 80's Dadley was so sharp and kept an edge so well I bragged about it all over the place (all the markings were rubbed very light)....found out it was from the 80 SS run and I was dumbfounded!!!  I had cut, shaped, peeled bark, knocked all the tough knots off 4 hiking staffs for my grand kids and it would still almost shave arm hair!!!  And it's 440A!   :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

Thank you Karl!  The Green River Dadley was the first fixed blade I bought myself. I bought a .50 cal T/C Hawken rifle, possibles bag, balls, patches, powder horn and that knife around 1974 from Gander Mountain and was hooked on Black powder for nearly 10 years. Ended up selling it all in '83 when I had my gun shop and could get anything I wanted gun or knife-wise...    Finally found a Commemorative Dadley in an Army Surplus Store in Midland Tx in the mid 90's and used it till it was lost in the '06 fire. I really like these knives!    That plain one in the first pic is the splitting image of mine from '74 except it's sheath is Eddie Bauer marked (on the back) and my orig wasn't.

I had a few too many  recently and made a comment on a FB group about blade coatings, I was a bit sarcastic but my conviction is real:  I believe in uncoated carbon steel used so regularly it doesn't get chance to rust....

That said, I'm a city boy with an office job

Does this count?

Awesome collection Robert  :salute:
I have the 35-244 but find the handle a bit short. I remember an article on Green River years ago in I think Blade Magazine and  there was an early Dadley? with a tapered tang. I'm loving seeing your great collections. :tu:
