Most likely my best 5160 blade to date.
Un-molested bar stock.
Digital kiln heat treat.
Perfect temper colour

:ahhh :ahhh

That looks great! G  :salute:

I had this out today for a check up.
This is a custom I bought from a local maker nearly 20 years ago now.
Originally it had a slight recurve at the rear which I ground out.
It was described as a Japanese temper fighter. The differential temper is now the darker section along the edge and slightly up and along the back of the blade.
It’s patina’d up a lot over the years.

It looked better when it was new.
Steel- 52100 sounds familiar but that is a guess really.
Use was regular for a few years now not at all.
Why?

We get new knives and the usage of old familiar ones fades sadly.  I have a few favorites that see regular usage or they'd probably sit as a new ones come into my possession.

That is much to my liking. Pointy, slicy and a handle that wont limit or confine the grip.    :tu:    :like:

I'm glad you like the Hunt'n Fisch Poncho.  I've carried mine quite a bit as well and my only complaint has been that I find the handle a bit slippery.  I've been thinking about filing some grooves or checkering in the handle but I can't quite bring myself to do something permanent to such a beautiful knife.

Thanks David, Poncho, Barry & Nix  :salute:

My favourite thing about the knife is the heat treat......I think that's the best I've managed to get out of 5160 yet.
It's silly large, and I love it, but I do have a problem with it......

May have jinxed myself by saying 2019 is my year for kitchen knives.......because believe it or not the knife looks more like "Take Me to Your Kitchen" than motherless Bowie knife.....

It's Ok I just looked it up.
There was some neat boots and double edge's around in the 70's/80's.
