DAY 4
Great pics guys! We got some unexpected snow overnight, and more to come. I used the Forester to cut away some thorns on the way to get a pic :D

Is there a climber like agreement of which 111mm is the average "best"/most liked 111mm?

Adventurer and Squirt enjoy 2mm of snow before it disappears

The most common is probably the soldier / trekker with one hand opening blade. It is not my cup of tea as it doesn't have scissors which I like on my daily carry.

Same here.  My solution is to always have a Manager in my pocket for the scissors, mini phillips and pen.   That supplements whatever larger SAK or MT I am carrying, as many of them do not have scissors.

Day 4

I solved the problem of needing a scissors in a similar way with my Pocket Tool Chest. This also gives me an in line awl a 2D Phillips and a jewelers SD. The jewelers SD has been a life saver it fits my glasses and those small Phillips you see on electronics these days.

Adding a Compact will do nicely (old pic)

Day 04:

Must be a snow day.

Just got back in from shoveling a few new inches off the walks. More expect tonight!

I'd normally pair my OHT with a Classic or Ambassador to add the scissors option. I'm treating this as a "one knife" challenge, so, right now, I'm missing me clippers.  :(

As should be. However, I´m not going to clip my nails with the Fireman. Challenge rules state that other tools are allowed, provided you try the challenge carry first.

That's crazy. You are just on the other side of the Bitterroot mountains from me. It was 0ºF here this morning, and it's been snowing all day!

I think that's the custom - and a good one - but to my knowledge there are no actual rules to that effect.  In this one, you can do whatever floats your boat, including not even starting on the "start" date.

For me, the fun is making myself carry and use a SAK or MT that normally does not get much love, but I'm cool with carrying other tools and doing whatever works for you.

As for the 111mm Challenge, I could almost see myself continuing to carry an Outrider long after the Challenge ends.  The upsides for me so far are 1) the big, locking blade, 2) the big handle when using the blade, 3) the inline phillips and 4) the ease of finding this SAK in an already crowded pocket.  Not really much of a downside.  I thought the size would be an issue in my pocket, but its not.

I do like the big size of these 111mm's.

I have big hands, and these feel "right" in the hand.

My Fireman had about 6 or 7 years of carry before I replaced it with a 93mm alox SAK (Carver SW with the same blade config (i.e. plain, serrated, and saw)). Its size was never a problem for me. Carrying the retired Fireman again brings back lots of good memories.

Day 4...

After the super bowl I used my Centurion to tighten a few handles on my kitchen cabinets. Other than that it didn’t see any use today.

This Forester shows why some SAKs should be seen in person before buying. The back of this one is nice and grainy but the front is as featureless as the bottom of an Ikea drawer. I should have paid a bit more to find something with more character.
(I'm going to be away from home for the next few days so instead of schlepping several 111mms with me I'll probably just take this one.)

Hm... good question. I suppose they must be glued. They're certainly on there very tight, with no cracks around the edges. I'm not in a hurry to crowbar them off!

Day1 Feb5
This Vic OH Trekker has been my primary EDC for a few years now. Ocasionaly I swap it for a climber and a CS Recon1, but 9/10 its the Trekker in my pocket.

This is really nice to follow! I only have one 111mm but unfortunately don't use it that much unless I'm out in the woods
