The Daydream Thread, aka I Won The Lottery.
on: February 06, 2018, 01:43:10 PM
This year has been a bit of a kick in the you-know-what's so far, times like these our dreams are maybe more important than ever.

I have a basic dream, hope for the future, but this thread is about what you would do if your dream came true, but not just that....if you could afford the colour coded mirrors, leather seat and all options, what would you do?

 :dd: Mine goes like this:

Where: Somewhere in Southern Namibia in one of the friendlier parts of the Namib.  I really love the Orange river, but there are a few inherent problems namely water pollution, floods, and unbearable heat in the river valley for a good part of the year.....
Seeing as how I'm filthy rich, I would be willing to consider similar places elsewhere in the world......would probably be smart, but who knows....

What: I would like to forge knives, swords, all manner and all shapes and sizes, whatever I feel like.......

How: This part might surprise you.....

I wold like a little shop with a forge driven mostly by a prevailing wind, but I also want nice steady 220V, a belt grinder and drill press, don't need much more than I have now.....except the belt grinder of course

Living area right next to the shop.......want to sleep in a hammock the rest of my days.

A fish pond.  This might be a bit much to ask, probably an aquaponics setup that combines the pond ans veg garden would be better.

Vegetable garden....see above  :D

Goats......tasty tasty goats  :D

Chickens......tasty tasty chickens with tasty tasty eggs  :D

A great view.......

.......and high-bandwidth internet that occasionally works.

 :salute:

A small house of my own, with a nice garden, and lots of peace and quiet would be enough for me.

There are a lot of small towns kind of suffering in the midwest U.S. right now.

I'd move back to my old home town, and build a factory producing Elios. I don't care how sound of a business investment it is. That's not what it's about. It's about getting people jobs, and making affordable transportation.

https://www.eliomotors.com/

I'd also build a world-class disc-golf course, or maybe two, in the same area, to attract folks to a tournament I'd host. Boost local tourist economy.

I have other things I'd do, set up my siblings for retirement, that kind of thing.

Pay off the house, buy the old home place, fund college funds and scholarships for nieces and nephews, round the clock care for a few special people a couple of nice 10 acre parcels, a tractor and a return to school for a law degree to settle some old grudges.  :D

The truth is, not a lot would change for me other than not having to work.  The lives of those I love would change.  MTO would have one heck of a party thats for sure.

Interesting thread.
I always wanted to be filthy stinking rich.
So far I managed 2 out of 3 (which technically is a win already)
Winning the lottery would finally get me 3 out of 3!
My hopes are low though.

Firstly, if I win the lottery, nobody will know. I'd create a trust and run it all through there. All outstanding taxes and bills would be paid first.

I would continue working. And further my education in that field.

I would buy a small cape style or American colonial house , maybe Victorian, with a barn to be used as a garage and workshop, so I can work on my zombie-apocalypse truck even if it's snowing outside.

Maybe some smaller animals in the barn as well, but for sure I would become a Beagle breeder. Beagles of Thunder. Beagles of some renown.

I would also quietly and anonymously contribute to the assistance of others in need, either partly or wholly resolving their issues when possible.

And I would get the brakes fixed on my 25 year old K5 Blazer.

If it was a relatively small amount I'd probably buy a motorhome and tour the continent and then the world, kayaking every chance I got and visiting pawn shops and the like looking for old pocket knives and other things of interest.  I'd probably also get a metal detector for the fun of it.

If it was a large amount I'd probably buy this:

https://www.privateislandsonline.com/caribbean/bahamas/the-abacos/tilloo-pond

The potential future site of Multitool Island in the Bahamas with lots of woods to play in, with inside space for up to twelve MTO members at a time, and a lot more outside for anyone that wants to crash in a hammock or tent.   :tu:

This guy comes home with a big smile on his face, and calls his wife.
Do you remember you told me that if I would win the lottery, you would divorce me and take half of my lottery win? I remember that she says, getting all exited and cheering, and asks him how much he won.
The guys says "I won 10 bucks. Here is your fiver, now get hell out".

When I heard that one, the guy gets home and tells his wife he's won the lottery and she should pack her bags.  She gets all excited and asks if she should pack for the beach or the mountains and he replies "I don't care, just get the smurf out!"

I'd just rent one. If it got swept away by a hurricane, tornado, tsunami, ICBM, I'd just rent another.

 8) 8)

It is also better because I could go from place to place, ocean to ocean, enjoying several types of weather and landscape.

Pay off my apartment, and rent it out. (If I ever get broke, spending it all, I have a fallback)
Buy a nicer apartment or even a house, buy a nicer car, possible several. A sports car, an all terrain, a high power sedan, buy a nicer bike, possibly several.
Travel the world in 5 star spa hotels.
To keep myself busy, I would look into starting a business that produces sea water cleaning equipment, if it is not to much work that is. I would go lazy full on.
