Old fishing tools...........
on: February 08, 2018, 06:08:54 PM
Cody 6268 recently posted a picture of a really nice Bonsa multi-tool he had acquired and was asked if there was a thread on fishing tools. He said he would look into posting one. As I seem to have a preponderance of free time lately I thought I might start one and then have others add to it.
As there are only 4 pictures per post allowed this might take a bit longer  but please bear with me.I will try and describe them as best as possible.
While there are several categories of fish knives(filet;scaling;for actually fishing;etc.)I will try and concentrate on the ones designed mainly for fishermen rather than the preparation of fish;although I might throw a couple of unusual ones in for good measure.
First up is a multi-blade knife by Joseph Rodgers for Abercrombie & Fitch(the outfitters;not the clothing makers)that features a hook dis-gorger;tweezers;a scale'corkscrew;master blade and checkered horn handles.
Second is a multi-blade marked Johnson Fish Saver with blade;scaler/hook dis-gorger and gaff.
Third is a floating fish knife with thick cork handles with blade and scaler/dis-gorger. I have several of these in different styles by different makers. This one is by Lunawerk.
Last is another floater by Teja & Rosa of Italy(more famous for their switchblades)that has a combo sclaer/file/dis-gorger/cap lifter blade.

This is to show how one of my floating fish knives functions. It is similar to an old Barry Wood design in that the two handles are held closed by a detent ball.To open you pull the handles slightly apart and rotate them exposing the blade and eventually locking into the open position via the detent ball.
