Daggers;single and double edged.................
on: December 19, 2020, 07:29:48 AM
Of all the knife patterns I have observed over the years I think the most beautiful is the dagger pattern. Many people also consider a double edged knife more practical especially when taking time to sharpen a dulled edge would be detrimental to the task being performed. Others dislike them because they feel that the construction isn't as strong as a conventional single edged knife.
And in many countries double edged knives are illegal to carry and even own. Fortunately the state I reside in the USA doesn't enforce the laws against double edged knives very strictly unless you are carrying it concealed or are a felon.
So here are a few of the daggers from my accumulation;some double edged and some with just a single edge.Hope you enjoy them and please feel free to post any you might possess(I promise not to tell on you).
#1 A dagger made of non magnetic Zytel from A.G.Russell. Several firms made these from a design by the infamous Walter,"Blackie" Collins.
#2 An original A.G.Russell "Sting" from 1977.
#3 A tiny dagger made by A. Paterson of Sheffield.
#4 A small ladies' dagger by Alfred Williams of Sheffield;bought on e-Bay advertised as a letter opener.

Another terrific showing Ray  :hatsoff:.  Talk about a fine CQC weapon.  I also love the idea that they were used as ceremonial or just plain "jewelry" that were carried.  King Tut was buried with a gold one.

Glad you enjoyed them. As for the King Tut dagger, did you happen to see the write up in one of the blade magazines many years ago about the recreation by Buster Warenski? It was a two part article concerning all the frustration he encountered while making it. Took him nearly two years to do and he used over two POUNDS of gold creating it! I'll have to go into my library and dig out the articles.

Strangely enough I bought that one off e-Bay from a gentleman in Australia.Wonder how it wound up down under. It is definitely an older style with the flat wood handle and the carving. Not sure what the cairngorm in the pommel is made of.

Vintage French Foreign Legion paratrooper dagger from the '60's or '70's by French manufacturer Begon in very nice condition.
Based on the Fairbairn-Sykes model, but with a lighter overall weight and fitted with a characteristically shorter handle (which is hollow and can be weighted to alter the balance)
The blade has never been sharpened and still has the factory flat edges.

Specs:

Overall length: 29,0 cm
Blade length: 18,5 cm
Maximum blade thickness (ricasso): 4,68 mm
Steel: forged stainless steel
Guard: polished stainless steel
Handle material: impact resistant black plastic
Pommel: polished brass
Sheath: black leather
Weight (without sheath): 122,8 gram

Vintage first model French paratrooper dagger from the 1950's and/or 1960's.

Blade length: 7.08 inches (18.0 cm)
Max blade thickness: 4.82 mm
Steel type: drop-forged carbon steel

Sheath: black leather
Weight without sheath: 261.7 grams
Weight with sheath: 300 grams

Sharpened the false edge on this Gerber Applegate - Fairbairn folder for a collector a few years ago.
The blade is completely shrouded by the handle when closed, so there is no risk of injury while carrying it in your pocket.
