I don´t like framelocks. I don´t have a CRK and probably never will.

I know they´re tough and high quality but I don´t like the split in the handle, for aesthetic reasons.

At one time in Chris Reeve knives I had:

2 Chris Reeve Green Berets 7" blade
2 Green Berets 5.5" blade
Project 1, 7.5" blade spearpoint hollow handle knife
Shadow III, 4" blade hollow handle knife
Mountainer, 4" blade hollow handle knife
Aviator, 4" blade hollow handle knife
3 Large Sebenza Unique Graphic knives
3 Small Sebenza Unique Graphic knives
Regular Small Sebenza
1 Regular Large Sebenza
2 Classic Large Sebenzas

Then I needed to come up with some extra money about 10 years ago, so I sold most of them on e-bay and now I just have 4 Chris Reeve knives.

Fortunately for me the Chris Reeve knives had a ready market on e-bay. They sold quickly.

I must confess I do miss them.

Yes. It's Wilson's version of the Umnumzaan. (sp?)

I used it on deployment: rugged, capable, and easy to clean. Quiet, too. The o-rings dampen the usual 'click' of opening a folder. This 'uns a keeper.  :D

So, there's a little bit of a story here. The pictured knife is mine, and has seen some field time. I actually put it through some rigorous testing first. I've used this knife to open crates, baton full-sized logs, cut open 55-gallon drums and 16oz tomato cans, slice rope and paper and MRE pouches, carve traps, and start fires. This knife eats it all up.

But here's the story: my brother gets deployed to Iraq. He was in the Army and is therefore considered the 'knuckle-dragger' of the family. After he arrives in-country Iraq, I get an email from him. It turns out he didn't bring a knife with him. Really? Are you kidding me? Well, like I mentioned, he's Army. Knuckle-dragger.

Right quick, I ship him my BM Griptilian. That's a good all-purpose knife and will stand up to anything he can do to it. Right? (In hindsight, a SAK OHT would have been even better.) He get's the Griptilian and is happy with. Seems to suit him.

But in the meantime, I start thinking... He's Army. Maybe a Griptilian won't stand up to Army life in the desert..... He needs a fixed blade, right? (After all, even my gentle-self deploys with a fixie.)

So I call up CRK and explain that my brother is deployed to Iraq and he needs a fixed blade knife ASAP.

Well, the folks at CRK could not have been more understanding or helpful. They were, in a word, fantastic. They bumped my order to the top of the list and let me order two Green Berets and then shipped them to me really quickly. I went with the 7" models at the time, but, in hindsight, might should have gone with the 5.5" model. Hard to say.

I shipped the CRK GB to my brother in Iraq and he was pretty ecstatic about it.  At first he thought it was a bit big, but then he grew to love it. He used that knife for all his subsequent deployments too. I guess it worked for him. And he still has it today.

I was seriously impressed with the Harsey-designed GB, but I ended up switching to a 5.5" custom from Scott Gossman (awesome!)--it just fit on my gear better. Nevertheless, the GB is a firm favorite. I don't have any real need for it now, but it holds great sentimental value for me. And it's wicked cool.

I've hear quite a few stories of soldiers bringing their fixed CRKs to Irak, Afghanistan and so on.
Seems like a favorite for those tasks and places!  :salute:
Knowing how easily things "grow legs" and disappear in the army, you took a big risk sending such top notch piece right there,
but knowing that your brother' life was at stake, it was the most logical thing to do   :tu:

I'm sure he was grateful you did that for him.

VICMAN, I knew that your collection had everything from the humblest of bucks to the highest class production folders, and I was sure you'd have at least a Sebenza,  ;)
but four CRKs?!  :ahhh

wowza! They're like the Porsche of the folding knives, and a living legend (much like the 110) of blades.
Modern marvel, exquisite representation of man's oldest tool.  ::)
I am again impressed, your passion for the hobby is obvious. Much respect!!  :hatsoff:
