Heavy Duty SOG Evolution Photo Comparison
on: February 15, 2018, 06:01:34 AM
Here is a rudimentary evolution of SOG's heavy duty MT designs and revisions based on some tools in my collection.
From left to right.
SOG PowerPlier - 1st SOG Heavy Duty MT. No locks or handle covers.
SOG PowerLock - Early USA PowerLock with 1st version polished plier head. Nice handle covers and lever locking system.
SOG PowerLock - Later version with newer style plier head. This one was also produced in China as well, but with a change to button head screws (see next tool). Pliers now have SOG around the plier head and USA has been omitted.
SOG PowerLock 2.0 - Less chunky(slimmer designed frame), tools covers snap closed, thicker steel handle metal, and gear covers that keep the spoked gears from destroying the sheath, pocket, and/or palm. Plier head has the now typical SOG engraved into the pliers instead of the pivot.
SOG PowerAssist - One handle has two outside OHO blades. Both blades lock and are assisted opening. Other handle has standard inside SOG tools, but with individual lock levers (some call piano locks) and a tool cover.
SOG PowerGrab - One handle has outside 2 OHO blades, can opener/small flat driver, phillips driver, and a 1/4" socket driver. Other handle has inside tools that are standard SOG implements. Locking mechanism changed to a strange double sided "loop" that you pull backwards to disengage the lock lever that looks like piano locks, but are pinned together and act like a solid piece. Plier head has place for hex bits in the bottom and the large  holder takes the place of gear covers and acts in a similar fashion to protect your sheath, pockets, and/or palm.

I know there is a lot I have missed and versions of different versions, but I am hoping this helps people see the basic differences in these six models. :)

Thank you Wspeed and clown!

clown,
I have kept my eyes open, but can't justify the price for a very limited run MT that I won't be using(it would be solely a collection piece). If one comes by at a reasonable price, it would be nice though.
