Several chat and ticketing systems have features where you can receive a notification if someone types @nick or [~nick] (to mention a couple of example syntaxes), do we have anything like that here? Can we have it?

An easy way to include somebody in a discussion about them or should include them (so they can correct, participate, or just ignore it). Less “shouty” and carries less obligations than a dedicated PM and quicker for the author. The downside is the spamming potential, but that's the same with PMs and should probably be handled the same as a PM. I think it's less bad spam-wise than a PM, since everybody sees you're tagging someone.

I frequent another forum that has added it recently and it is very nice. Easily informs you when someone replies to a thread so you don't have to remember and search. It's really effective and efficient.

I believe we looked into this before and there weren't really any components that would do it in an acceptable way.  Micah however seems to have found one just before he eft, but he won't be able to give it a shot as he's off for a couple of weeks.

No. Since you replied to me and quoted me I would have a (1) by my messages letting me know and a direct link to the "quoted" response. It's a great feature. Saves an epic amount of time and lets you stay engaged in conversations.

I frequent another forum that has added it recently and it is very nice. Easily informs you when someone replies to a thread so you don't have to remember and search. It's really effective and efficient.

No. Since you replied to me and quoted me I would have a (1) by my messages letting me know and a direct link to the "quoted" response. It's a great feature. Saves an epic amount of time and lets you stay engaged in conversations.

Another reason @mention would be nice, is the “Replies” view, with threads you have posted in is borderline useless with our culture of never-ending threads, thread derailing, and thread necro. If you've been a member for a while, “Replies” may sometimes be amusingly similar to “Unread”. :)
