What's the deal with the wire stripper?
on: February 22, 2018, 10:39:40 AM
Hey folks,
I am reading on sakwiki that the correct use to work the wire stripper notch on cap lifter tool is in conjunction with the main blade: notch holds the wire in place while blade closes on it and cuts the wire insulation.
That actually made sense at first (even though that wouldn't really work on fat SAKs), but then I thought: what about 58mm SAKs, where the notch on the cap lifter doesn't have a blade to be used with it? What is the correct usage there?
Are we really sure that the above is the supposed way to use the wire stripper?

On my 58mm Rambler, the notch in the cap lifter is right beside the blade.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

Here's a wire stripper notch video demo from a couple of years ago:

Hate to diss the Vic, but the only decent wire stripper I've seen on a multi-tool is this little beauty by Leatherman. (Actually, Victorinox fails quite badly when it comes to electrical wiring - few SAKs come with the essential long flat headed screwdriver.)

So if you're a professional stripper, this is something worth looking for!

+1

the LM one is very usable

SOGs also have a tool for that purpose (can be added to many of their models)  form what I remember
Kelly: "Daddy, what makes men cheat on women?
Al : "Women!"

I have a Vagabond, and both blades are on the opposite side.
