Another new Brit
on: February 16, 2018, 12:11:33 PM
Good morning all,

Im Tom (if my username didn't already give it away) and im saying hello from the sunny south west of England ... although, ill probably have to run inside for an umbrella in 5 minutes

Im a service engineer and i love taking stuff apart and fixing/modifying stuff, hence a love of tools

I haven't been into MTs/SAKs for very long but ive been bit by the bug recently and can't stop trawling ebay etc for deals. I stumbled across this forum while looking for sak mods and i most say it seems to be one of the nicest forums ive ever come across. The helpfulness and comradery is impressive and the banter on a whole seems more appropriate than abusive ... Most forums ive been a part of struggle with all of the above in some way

On to gear ...

For the past couple years ive been EDCing a squirt ES4, a vic PX and some kind of pocketable torch (ultratac k18 right now) whether im working or not, but on the job I carry a wenger laptop backpack stuffed to the brim. Among the 'dedicated' tools in the pack lives a gear pouch with a rebar or surge as backup for when the es4 isn't man enough. My 111mm outrider lives in my volvo, a juice cs4 in the kitchen draw, style cs on the living room coffee table, moraknives in the shed and im sure theres other stuff hiding round here somewhere

If/when I figure out pictures ill probably start a thread in 'general discussion' if anyone is interested in my musings on cars, guitars, electronics and .... well, i guess, MTs and the like

Tom out.

Greetings and welcome.  I like your 5th pocket carry.  Not sure I've seen someone carry the ES4 daily, pretty neat.

I think quite a few have had issues with the LM squirt scissors.  Sadly I even thing someone has experienced a broken spring while the tool was sitting .

no its a 360 GLT, so it has the redblock engine, torque tube and transaxle m47 5 spd gearbox over the back axle

my previous volvo was a CVT 340, i only bought it out of curiousity (thats the engineer in me  :D) and just had to know how the CVT worked, it was loads of fun.... very slow fun. it just 'woooooshed' around. so i chopped the coils and put some steel box section under the axle and drove it 'low and slow' around bristol when i lived there a few years back.

Aye-up! (that's what they say in Yorkshire isn't it?)... I like Yorkshirites - they're my kind of people! I'm a Jock which is better still.  :salute:

They do indeed Fuzz! :tu:

now all the farmers and pirates around here say it too, when i enter the pub.  8)

i like Jocks too, straight talkers and tough as nails, my kind of people .... better still? maybe, maybe not.

Used to have a predecessor to the 340 in the form of a Daf 55, with an 1100 cc Renault engine and a CVT, ages ago. Proved too difficult to maintain down here...

Anyway, test passed (just kidding), welcome :tu:
Cheers!
