SAK Can Opener in Charge/Wave?
on: February 19, 2018, 12:41:13 AM
Has anyone found a way to put a SAK-like push can opener in a Charge/Wave MT, even if it was custom made?

Want one to replace the Charge TTi's can opener.

I don't see why not , SAK scissors have been put in Leatherman tools before. Drill out the pivot to the correct size and reprofile to fit.

I'll be mucking around with LM openers in the next week or two and can take a look at it then.
However the only Victorinox opener that is likely to be in the parts box atm is probably 91mm.

My recollection from fitting Vic scissors into a Kick is that the tool will open past 180° and won't lock.  I don't think you will be able to correct the opening angle, but filing a locking groove should be easy enough.

I wonder if there's enough material in the Leatherman large flat driver to make your own?

I do like the quality of the sak can openers :like:
When our tin can opener broke all I had was the LM supertool
Or the sak champ and found that the sak worked better
Than the LM supertool  :tu:

This is a good idea and one I should have tried.  I'm going to have a look at my modded wave today and see how it could work.  I also am a fan of the SAK can opener.

Indeed... I have a spare 93mm can opener and will also investigate. Come to think of it, that incorporates a small screwdriver which can double as a 2D Phillips/Pozidriv in a pinch...
Cheers!

A few years ago I ran across a sale on some delicious canned fruit. Problem was the cans were also cheap. When I used a Leatherman Charge to open the cans, the opener left little metal splinters all along the outer lip. Did not notice that until my hands started having an effect from the metal, and I had to dig out the headlamp & tweezers to get them suckers out. A few of them stayed buried until they began to swell enough to spot & expel them.

Then I had gotten the Climber, and later a Wenger OI 16520 model from FelineVet. The WOI, since it having that annoying bail, has been a kitchen utility knife - and luv its can opener.

Any time I go to open a can I grab either the Climber or the WOI. Swear I'm going to remove that bail & start carrying it as a pocket knife...  :twak:  Every so often (when I forget) that bail will lie in wait for the blade to come down and put another dent in the edge. /grr

Jim, what is the current inner tool layout with your Charge? Some pics would be good.
