My old Schrade
on: February 19, 2018, 01:28:30 PM
I purchased this in 1978, at a Woolco. I can date it because I had just started working full time. The original Sheath slowly disintegrated  so a local saddle  maker made me a new one. The current Shrade company still makes this pattern calling it the golden spike, I've held it and sadly it feels nothing like the original, much lighter.anyway here's a couple of pic's

It sure is, if I have a reason for a belt knife it's the one!

I purchased this to replace the Schrade in the early 80s but it never did. They're made locally and are a high quality

Nice pics Greg! :like: :tu: :tu:

I am sure that knife brings back a lot of good memories,

I agree that the current models don't feel like the originals.

They are nice, I had gotten so used to the Schrade that I couldn't switch, the Grohman only went on one 3 day hunting trip when it was new

Pretty cool, Greg! I like the Grohmann design, must make for a hell of a chopper. Almost half way between a knife and a machete. I have to agree the Schrade as a great old school look to it.

The Grohman is a brut, it might not have the swing of a machete, but it could go toe to toe with a hatchet, it would fit nicely as a Bushcraft tool

Beautiful knife, Greg.  :tu:

My first fixed blade knife was a Schrade Old Timer.

This Schrade Old Timer:

The sheath is still in decent shape, but clearly showing its age and use.

Blade is still nice and sharp, but could use a touch-up to get it back to shaving.

My uncle gave me this knife when I was 12 years-old and it meant the world to me. Other hunting knives have come and gone, but the old Schrade is a keeper.   :tu:

Well, if when you end up being part of someone's knife history, I think it's more than appropriate.

Yep, I have an old Schrade belt knife too (the type with a Delrin handle). It's a very well made knife.

I had to dig out my old ones. I haven't used them in YEARS.    They have served me a real well and have been on many, many hunting and fishing trips over the years.
Even though they are not in the best of shape, I would not think twice on using them again
