Ben - yeah, the fact is was a cheaper Spydie is exactly why I come to own it, but you can still get a feel for the quality, if not the premium materials, and it's extremely well put together.

I've never held a Benchmade (living in the UK doesn't help) so I'd be interested in seeing the mini-grip. I certainly can't complain about the Spyderco and Byrd knives I have.

One thing that's always put me off of the other FRN Spydies is the moulded clip as I would be worried about breaking it off and therefore being unrepairable. How solid does it feel?

Older ones are often found broken , that said , they were a great knife for the buck . Almost a cult following grew up around them .

It's the older one that I want as the newer have the skeletonised steel liners that I don't feel are really necessary.
