Mini Tool phillips mod
on: March 05, 2018, 08:48:09 PM
Why ? because the Mini Tool knife blade is pretty limited and a Phillips would be handier. There is no room for a 3D driver so I decided to add one modeled after the Micra Phillips. I initially intended to use the medium driver from a PST but in soon became apparent that the Large driver would work better although it would take more grinding. I also screwed up the Medium driver trying to get a better fit by taking a bit to much off of the locking notch.

The PST drivers fit with minimum alteration to the back of the pivot. You have to reduce the width of the Large driver and thickness of the tip.   I did have to use a thin washer as they are ever so slightly thinner than the knife blade.

Very interesting Steve, I've often thought about whether it was possible to mod a phillips for the mini. Do you think you could use a pst/wave phillips if you were to grind down one side thinning it and losing a flange?

Thank you for posting this, Steve! I think that is the best way to go on the Mini. :tu:

No, there isn't enough room. This 2D design works remarkably well.

That is groovy! The phillips is certainly light duty, but the Mini's straight driver has always struck me as being less robust than the equivelent on the PST. But this is the way it should have been made- the blade of the Mini is always going to look silly to me.

You inspired me. I just picked up a used mini cheap on evilbay which had a broken "flat head" file tip. Anybody using a hardened file for prying or heavy duty use has to be nuts, so anyway I ground out a flat head blade and then went back an matched it up to the micra philiips and was surprised by how well it worked. Nice mod amigo. If I break this I will use your idea next.
