have a fun challenge, the Rebar is awesome!

How do you guys do this?
I think that you rub it with a strong magnet.  :D
That simple? Oh wow. Gonna try. How long does it usually take?

Half a minute or so, it's really nothing.

Day 5

No task for the Rebar today, we've beeb on the road, so here's something mildly interesting, the Rebar and an original Supertool-stlye/size Chinese Mammut multitool from the toolbox of my Mom's late partner. It's pretty beat up, the handles must have been overtorqued at some point, because they are completely loose and don't line up closed, but when new, this might have been an okay-ish tool, not that ultimate crap type.

OMG I have that exact same tool with the exact same functions and implements   :ahhh
My toys:

MTs: Surge (2x), Skeletool CX, Rebar, Blast, Fuse, Micra, Squirt (3x), Wave, Crunch, Mini, Spirit (2x), Pro Scout, MP700 (2x), Diesel, Powerlock, PowerPlier (2x), PocketPowerPlier, Blacktip , ST6 (2x), 5WR, A100

SAKs: Bantam, Executive, Ambassador, Minichamp, Classic Alox, Champion, Farmer, Explorer, Swisschamp, Golf Tool, Wenger Champ, EVO 52, Pocket Tool Chest

gets a pass because of the bit driver
and sharp knife blade,

 :salute:

but boy is it bulky and heavy
Scissors aren't bad either

Day 6

Today's theme: opening stuff. And what was in the package? A Ganzo G301, a version of their "flagship" line. Saw it on sale the other week, couldn't resist. The G20x and G30x lines are more than decent tools in my eyes, real value for the money. This will be a great backup/beater. (My wife "inherited" my old G202 a while ago, but it seems I just can't live without a Ganzo MT :D)

The Rebar is so photogenic.  :dd:

And enjoy the Ganzo. I am thinking of ordering another one for the bit kit.

This is looking like a great challenge so far. I have my sights on a lightly used Rebar on eBay, but was intending on cannibalizing it for parts for my Wave. This thread might make me reconsider... or at least order another tone

Day 8

After the Hercules excelled in the kitchen in the 111 mm Vic challenge, I thought I'll put the Rebar to the test there as well. The serrated blade did superbly on the light and fluffy ciabatta and on the dry, aged home made sausage as well. I tried the PE blade as well on the bread, but wasn't that great at it, see the edges of the third slice. That's all for now, but I'll try other food prep tasks in the future.

Good test, trial of the blades.
I like the serrated of my Rebar for many such chores.  The plain edge is not a bread cutter, but does do meat and cheese well.
Extending the bottom handle increases my hand purchase on the Rebar allowing blade (s) to cut to the surface.

PE also great on veggie prep for soups and salads garnishes.

Day 9

Contiuing with the kitchen theme: cut some cheese with the serrated blade (no photos unfortunately), and thanks to the hollow grind, it actually worked better than our skeletonized cheese knife, also diced up a decent amount of potato with the PE blade, worked well, but because of its limited length the first cuts were less than ideal with the bigger ones. I guess the Rebar would work okay in a camping situation.

Day 10

My wife did some organizing and dug up a travel bag with a broken/torn handle, so I thought I'd try my hand and the Rebar at some repair. I put a bent piece of medium hard plastic into the handle tube to give it more structural strength, drilled holes on both ends and secured them together with a ziptie, finally cut the loose end with the wirecutter. Not a perfect solution, won't really hold heavy stuff, but for clothes it will be adequate if needed, and it was a fun little project. (6 photos, 2-part post.)

Day 10 continued

My Surge awl has been put into service doing this a few times. I've long since lost track of how many things I've repaired with this ziptie-stitching technique. It has the potential to make a very robust repair that will last a long time.

Great job on the challenge so far!   :like:

Day 11

The kitchen testing continued today: wife cut up a piece if pork rib-ends(?) or short ribs(?) - sorry, I'm not really familiar with English butchering terminology - and, to our surprise, the plain edge blade dealt with it easily, went through the cartilage almost as smoothly as through the meat.  :multi: We had a nice roast rib dinnner.  :)

Day 13

Well, I never thought I'll be able to take pictures of the Rebar in snow in this challenge, but here we are, well into the second half of March and we woke up to this. (Although we got off lightly here, other parts of the country had blizzards, roads blocked by snow and power outages.)
