Bladeless MP400 #2
on: March 08, 2018, 04:31:04 PM
Sorry to bang on once again about how great I think the MP400 is, but here's my 2nd 400 in its new bladless state.

Spartan19 somehow ( :D) knew how much I like the 400 and sent me a spare one out of the kindness of his heart.

Kev Davey then sent me a file and saw from a Diesel and Hey Presto!

The file needed a little fettling to fit in (to be tidied up at a later date), and as with all good mods, I sustained a slight Gerber related injury. Mr Pinchy strikes again!

Thanks for looking.

Very nice Mags :tu: The MP400/600 platform is for sure a great one for modding and I wish that you could just purchase separate parts similar to the way SOG does this but they are reasonably priced enough that a person could buy second hand and have a good selection of spare parts :salute:

Very nice!  :tu:

For some reason, the first MP400 I had didn't really click with me, but the one I got for the $10 Challenge did, and I really appreciate them now.

I actually kind of like the idea of a bladeless MT, paired with some knife, probably a SAK.

... but they are reasonably priced enough that a person could buy second hand and have a good selection of spare parts :salute:

Absolutely. After watching ebay for several months, the Multi-Plier and MP600 come up all the time for reasonable prices, and often if one component is broken, they sell dirt cheap. good for scavenging parts, assuming the broken part isn't the one you need.

It looks very neat mags.  :like:

Question, for you (and anyone else who might want to chime in), what makes a bladeless MP400 nicer (or not as nice, if you prefer) than any other hypothetical bladeless multitool you care to name, ease of modding aside?
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

Without the blade, your cutting implement on the MP400 are the scissors, and the MP400 scissors are REALLY good. For its size and weight, the MP400 is one of the most heavy-duty MTs on the market, from what I've seen. Good plier ergos. Very stout, locking drivers. And if you want to slightly blunt the plier nose, pretty reasonable as pocket carry.

Just my opinion from my recent MP400 in the $10 Challenge, linked below...

Oh, yeah, and apparently, they can occasionally be found for $10. :D

Aren't the scissors actualy Fiskars scissors too?
And is Gerber really a division of Fiskars?

Pabs, echoing what Lynn said, the 400 is a great size, is bombproof, great scissors (even better now I have discovered the integrated bubble wand), the philips driver will accept a bit holder so you have the full range of driver options, the pliers are excellent. And it flicks. Need I say more?

Nice one, Luke  :tu:

I too have a knifeless MP400. Mine doesn't have the saw, but has the can opener and a corkscrew. I currently have seven knifeless mods, and the MP400 is the one that gets the most carry time. It's not too bulky or heavy, has good ergonomics, and everything does what it is supposed to. I'm surprised Gerber haven't seen fit to produce it as a standard model, instead of the knifeless MP600 they did, which sadly comes with the evaporating cutters.
