Marc, if you're careful you can cut a slot for the pin on those scales. I did one on an old sak of mine (given away now) and it wasn't too difficult.

Mags, sorry I missed your post while taking photographs... as you can now see, I will attempt to fill the two associated recesses in order to provide a solid base to drill into. And YES I will be very careful. I am now building a “jig” to mount the scale onto the fixed chuck on my watchmaker’s lathe and will slowly drill through the scale.
