PathFinder knife
on: November 09, 2008, 11:46:28 AM

So,i thought id start a little thread about this knife ive encounterd,as i havent visited Wilderness Outfitters Archery for a while although i am very intrested in Dave Canterburys way of survival skill teaching and his Youtube videos.

And i have this thread here on Outdoor Edge intentionally as i am intrested of opinions regarding this knife ONLY in outdoor point of wiev, not as puttin it on safe or other way of dust collecting :D

This knife is made out of 1075 high carbon steel, and pretty big, gurkha style blade with 9" of length.
theyre hand forged one at a time.

As i am fan of big raw knifes(can this even be called as a knife :o) im very intrested to get one and i have made just an order to get one.but what do u guys think of this blade, just out of curiocity?

I realise i will be pee´d on cause it aint somethin made out of some hi-tech material and it aint wor whittling toothpicks and other lady-like,so u can leave that whinin off :D.But as a companion to sak and multitool,or combined with small fixed blade i think this might be good fot those harder tasks.

IMO,i think it will be nice splitter when u check out how the blades weight point is just at its tip,and the curved shape of the handle.

I like it because it's looks to be able to everything a Kukri can, ie drawing, spliting, baton ect, but being in a lighter, smaller package :)

My only concern with carbon steel for outdoors use is that the outdoors around here is often wet, and you know what that means.

I have to say that this isn't my kind of thing.  If I think there is even a remote chance of having to chop wood then I'll pick up an axe.  The one thing I might be tempted with is a billhook.  I don't mean to be negative but I suppose it's all a matter of personal taste. :-\

yep,we all have our tastes, mines bit odd i think but i dont mind :D

id carry easily some axe if id see one thats really tough and useful.i dont ming the weight at all,as long as it can be vcarried in belt or on back.

If you don't have one I can recommend Gransfors Bruk.  I have the small forest axe and love it, but you really want to know you are going to use it to justify carrying the weight.

i have granfors and few hand forged swedish ones, some bare axeheads, one stubby fiskars, and old Valmet camping axe which im restoring as its pretty damn rare.

but id like to get somethin like estwing or some other rugged one.

short firemens axe,or other entry tool like.

those crowbar/hammer/axe combos,i havent used but they intrest me a lot.

but once again we went off topic  :D :D

That should be one good chopper, and scrapper, and 1075 is a great steel for that purpose. :salute:

it's an improvement on the old kukri design and tbt also with the serrated edge in place where you can grip the top front edge and pull the blade like a draw knife. i'm a member of the wildernessoutfittersarchery forum and that knife went gangbusters on that site. made by a fellow member there. :salute: :tu:
