Spyderco tools, anyone?
on: March 14, 2018, 09:30:37 PM
oh no, sacrilegious icons shall not be praised in the SAK Kingdom!  :dwts: :SAKnight:
I just thought I'd ask here if any of you have or had a Spyderench or the Byrd version and what are your thoughts on them.  ???

I am not planning to swap my SAKs for them any time soon but I wanted some input of the most appropriate folks on this hobby about their performance, carry/use pros and cons and personal thoughts.  :salute:

Spyderco just released their new line of ClipiTools (2 models) to appeal to a wider market and so far they seem to a quite  attractive -albeit pricey- option to consider along with the Boker, RUIKE and similar "SAKalikes" using new steels, materials and features  :gimme:

anybody plan on getting one?

reviews of these state they're really robust feeling and easy to carry clipped, and mostly generate positive impressions  so far
Not as many tools but a nice complement to a folder (or as a standalone tool) for those who could use some prying and screwing implements   :climber:

Thanks!

I handled them in Shotshow. But you already know I how I feel about their holes.
They just have to put them on everything to ruin the look.

I wish I could but I'd only be buying one for the border guards to play with.

Haven’t been following Spyderco like I used to and this is the first I have seen of these. I would absolutely like to give one some pocket time depending on price.

Not that impressed - Looks really uncomfortable to use, really ugly, and there's an awful lot of steel there for such minor tools. The SAK next to it looks so much nicer and more functional (and cheaper).

My thoughts as well. I don't mind 'ugly', but uncomfortable is never a good idea.

looks can be deceiving sometimes,
I don't know how many SAKs and MTs the reviewers of these Spydercos have and carry but so far most seem to agree that there are easy to pocket carry, not bulky, thick or heavy and can't be argued with in the handling department either,  :ahhh

Spyderco has been known for its ergonomics and greatly engineered handles and designs since the 70s, with constant CQI and remodeling of their knives   :salute:

8CR13MOV on these new tools, not a steel I've enjoyed using, dulls very quickly. I'd prefer AUS-8A, much better quality and I trust the Japanese QC much more.
