Lack of In Line Phillips
on: March 15, 2018, 02:59:33 PM
Did a search of the whole forum and didn't  find what I was looking for.
Why are there so few SAK's with the in line Phillips? The main blade and 2 screwdrivers are all I use and to be honest the backside Phillips is pretty sorry compared to the in line one. I'm sure many feel the same

There are quite a few parman  :pok:

Explorer
Woodsman
Passenger
Yeoman
Scientist
Swisschamp

There are prolly more, but I can't think right now.

the explorer is prolly your best bet as it's widely available.

What are you after apart from the philips in a tool set?

Victorinox models, off the top of my head:
Scientist
Passenger
Yeoman
Explorer
Cybertool S
Cybertool M
Cybertool L
Cybertool Lite
Woodsman
Modeler
Champion
SwissChamp
XL
XLT
XXLT
XAVT
Outrider
Hercules
Workchamp
Workchamp XL
There are bound to be more, including the Wenger/Delemont models...

Some are current, some discontinued.  But plenty of possibilities.   :)

Only problem I have with the backside philips is that the rest of the knife sometimes gets in the way when turning it. Oh, and you can't turn it as fast... You know what, inline phillips does sound good...   :climber: :gimme: :D

Maybe a Syph custom with the two flat drivers opposite the inline phillips + main blade would suit. :tu:

I have an old Explorer, it's my favorite SAK. What I would like is a thinner knife with the in line.

I guess I'm thinking along the lines of a small tinker with a in line Phillips. A smaller knife with the Phillips instead of a bigger knife

You could easily remove the scissor layer leaving you with a Passenger, or remove the scissors and opener layer, replace the small blade with the combo tool and have a Scientist, or leave the scissors and replace the opener layer and small blade with the combo tool for a Yeoman.

Removing layers and repeening is relatively straightforward and if you pay for postage I'll gladly do it for you gratis.

I think no 84mm knives have been made with the inline phillips.  The old Wenger Cyclist/Mustang is the closest I can think of, and there's no Delemont equivalent.

Spartan Lite, Hunstman Lite also have the inline phillips opposite the led light...

The Wenger and now Victorinox Evolution S557 also have the inline phillips opposite the Universal wrench...

I believe that someone did a 84mm inline Philips mod, it’s on the Swissarmyknights website.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

So now we know what the white SAK is. Thanks Hiraethus! That little wrench can't be very useful but I suppose it might work sometimes.

thank much hiraethus for the ID, I really appreciate it!
It probably has swapped scales, but the previous owner managed to break the new ones too

as for the Champion's blade, truth may not be interesting but it sure is a facepalm truth, all my fault.
I was sliding the blade between the metal plates of a big flowerpot-carrying shelving with wheels, cutting the wrapping that covered the flowers we just received from a shipment.

In doing so I was moving along the side of the shelving and didn't see a hose that was in the floor where it shouldn't have been. I tripped and stumbled with the hose in a stupid fashion, and I put all my weight onto the blade during my fall, and it obviously snapped.

I also managed to crack the scales on my Swisschamp that same week in the garden   :surrender:

The inline rocks!  That is why I don't own any sak's with the back philips.  Another plus for the inline philips is that you get the cork screw for the mini screwdriver!  ;)

This is also why my EDC has been the Explorer for quite some time!   :tu:
