BA axe head
on: July 22, 2019, 02:39:58 AM
I do do a spot of metal detecting now and again and this is one of my favourite finds.

its a 3000 year old bronze Age axe head. which would have been a very important bit of kit back then, used to build shelter, chop fire wood and maybe even used as a weapon.

as BA axe heads go its not the best example but it brought a smile to my face when I found it.

My trouble is i never show initiative, but that's only because no one has told me to.

What a great find!

I can only imagine what a precious axe that would have been for the original owner. Which gives rise to so many questions......

Holy smurf, that's awesome!  :2tu:

Will you do anything to preserve it?

I thought that but
I found it only a few inches down in a freshly ploughed field so as well as being in the dirt for three millennia it’s probably been regularly tossed about by the farmers plough for a couple of hundred years aswell so I think I will leave as it is unless it starts to visibly degrade.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments.

That's outstanding!  :like: My brother had a Bronze Age Axehead somewhere, I'll need to try and find it.

Yeah, I should think it's pretty stable.

excellent find. so you'll use it for the October challenge?
