Leatherman OG Wave sheath.

I think I've shown this sheath before.  I was going thru some tools and stumbled upon it and wow what a terrific sheath.  I've been thinking I should really source another or 2.  I like the logo on the snap.  The fit of the OG Wave is awesome within.  I also like the over shape and design.

Those are so much nicer than the crappy nylon sheaths they have now.

Quite a while back, I purchased an OG Wave sheath, but to keep my PSTII, because I hadn't a sheath for it, and I hadn't met Multitool.org yet, so I didn't have easy access to original PST sheaths.

I carried the PSTII in it a lot, even though it was loose. I like the color. Well, eventually,  the thread holding the belt loop became loose and broken, so the loop was loose and in danger of coming apart and allowing the sheath to fall off. I set it aside.

Last week I got an Easy Stitcher from REI. Probably the best $13 I've spent in a while. A nice thick, waxed thread.

I wanted the fix the OG Wave sheath with it but the needles are way too thick. My GF got a smaller needle from her sewing box, and we split the waxed thread in half. I started to try, but she has much better skill in this area. She sewed the top end of the belt loop expertly. Looks great. I tried to post a picture but the file size is too big. I'll try again in a minute after resizing

Aloha,  I like the logo on that sheath snap also. It is not present on this sheath we just repaired. It just says Leatherman circling the snap. Also, mine has no printing on the flap. It has it diagonally down the front of the sheath.

I love the color of these.

Only drawback (as I have found) is that the belt loop is not integrated and can de-thread, or the threads can wear and then unravel. It isn't likely to happen quickly, so you should be able to see it coming and head it off as we have with this repair.

I like that the new leather sheaths are closer to this color and not black. I like those original black ones too, of course, but this is a nice change

Love this!

Thanks Kaput.  The hardest part was taking care to reuse the original holes rather than fill the thing with more holes. So, to that end, it took a lot of time compared with starting with fresh leather

She did a great job  :tu:

I agree the belt loop part unfortunately is a failure point.  Hey you've got a wonderful GF so wear the heck out of that sheath with no worries.

Thanks Aloha. She sure did. I keep looking at it, telling her we should buy a few yards of leather, take apart one of the original PST sheath, make a pattern, make  few (sewn, not riveted) and see how we do. She just laughed, shook her head and walked out of the room.

Unfortunately for me , the PSTII in those pics, is also the one she opted to take to the Galapagos islands. So now, that one is hers, and that's the sheath I used for it, so that one is hers now too. She keeps it at home or in her hand bag.

That belt loop can be a failure point, but it seems to happen slowly. You'd know it well before it gave way. So that's another good point about these sheaths

I was talking about knife steels to a female friend who commented on a knife I had on me.  I began to tell her what I liked about that particular steel and when I saw the glazed over look in her eye I said thank you

The beauty of the LM box sheath design is that there is no stitching. All you need is a leather rivet tool, snap tool and some Leather.

You can get those at Hobby Lobby if you have one or a local Tandy Leather store. Hobby Lobby even has bags of scrap Leather. I just recently bought both the snap tool kit and the rivet kit when I altered a sheath for my Mini tool.

Hi SteveC

Moderator now? Congrats!

Yeah I had seen your alteration to fit the LM MiniTool. I thought that was a nice job.

Lacking a Tandy, Hobby Lobby, and leather rivet tool, but owning a Speedy Stitcher, I thought I'd investigate that venue first. Meanwhile I'll have to search out a sufficient hobby and craft store. But I've seen some nice stich work on some of the threads and might like to try that first.
