Special tools we love...
on: March 24, 2018, 06:32:09 PM
Vic and Weng have both issued several specialized tools that maybe just a few would appreciate and use.
Wenger especially seemed to understand that some tasks require specialized tools...
What "available" specialized tools would you guys love to have and use?
And what specialized tool do you miss that never has been implemented by either company,  "UNavailable tools"?

My "available" tools would be:
Telescopic pointer
Skiwax scraper
Altimeter scale tool
1g gold ingot
Choke tool

My unavailable tool:
Blasting cap crimper/c4-punch (seriously? All these knives for the military market and no blasting cap crimper and c4-punch???)

I'm all sorted on the cap-crimpling front thanks to my Swisstool Spirit X (with Cap Crimper!)
Now all I need to do is find out what the hell a cap crimper is so I can really go wild with it.
Most of the speSmurfpillsed tools leave me mystified. Since I am no golfer I don't even know what that strange two-prong piano fork is for. Not many pianos on golf courses so I doubt it does anything musical.
Overall, I like my SAKs to be simple and not too crazy... even things with obvious uses, like inline phillips screwdrivers, take up so much space that I generally avoid them.
I definitely think Vic should have deployed the comb tool - they decided against it on hygiene grounds. To which I say hygiene, schmygiene. I don't think a company that puts toothpicks on every damn SAK is in the position to lecture anyone about hygiene!

good point! They would've made a fortune with the hipsters marketing it as a "beard groomer"

A cap crimper to me is a tool for detonators, i always wondered why they put them on multitools, unless it's to re'crimp a beer bottle top to refit it? but again..who cant drink a full bottle of beer and want to reseal it
I would like a Laser pointer..for no other reason that lasers are cool  :tu:
and if we are being silly...a sonic screwdriver

A fork would be nice. Mikov does it. Syph does it. But Victorinox does not.

Cap crimper is for securing (crimping) blasting caps (or detonators as you call them) to fuzes... traditionally you used your teeth for this purpose... until you bit down at the wrong place... then you never used your teeth for anything anymore (or your jaw/face for that matter).... cue the specialized tool tailor-made for the purpose of crimping No8 caps onto fuzes...

Hardly an obscure tool but my dad absolutely loves the rescue blade on his SwissTool he says it's s terrific cutting edge, and useful for various other tasks, like cleaning bolt threads for example. At first I feared he may find no use for it, and it would have uselessly sacrificed the file, so I was elated he's found some use for it. My brother thinks the one in the RescueTool I gifted him is neat as well, so I've been looking for one to add to my personal collection.

That's what i thought but i question why they would put such a speSmurfpillst tool on something 90% of people would never use, figured there might be another use intended for it

Keycap ejector (to remove the old keycap when replacing with a new one on a keyboard) (the screwdriver works fine, but whatever...)
SIM card ejector (while we wait for software SIMs)
Inline technician's screwdriver, I want it back!

+ 1 to Steinars list.
They could call it the Victorinox Nerd!

(Though that technician's screwdriver is such an essential - try doing anything with the lighting in your home without one - that it is a total riddle why Victorinox treats it like an exotic tool, banishing it to strange places like the backside of a Huntsman Lite. It's a 100x more useful than the Ken&Barbie chisel on the back of my Mountaineer Lite!)

Speaking of scales, instead of a laser pointer or an altimeter, they could house an IR thermometer. Would fit well on the Victorinox Nerd.  :D
