Handyman Challenge
on: March 25, 2018, 09:27:07 PM
It's been a while since the Chuck Yeager Challenge, one month carrying nithing but an Executive.
I had a blast participating and have been thinking of a new challenge since then.
Today a wild idea sprang to mind: a Workchamp Challenge.
But that would require me to get a Workchamp and my checkbook does not allow that at the moment.
Second, it would mean to leave my trusty Handyman behind for another month.

So why not put the Handyman in the spotlight for a month and do a Handyman Challenge?
Doesn't that feel like cheating? I carry an Handyman as EDC every single day. But I think not. The Chuck Yeager challenge gave me a very good insight in what the SAK is capable off and what tools do or don't get used. That has me wondering how the Handyman will stack up.

Handyman and fruit

So, from april 1st to 30th I will carry only the Handyman. I will surrender all other knives save the ResqueTool in my car and leave them at home. That means the following: Smabenza (Small Sebenza replica), Cybertool 31, Explorer, Sentinel OH and the KAI Personal Steak Knife.

Everyday I will report in with a story and possible photos tilk the end of the month.

Of course, everybody is welcome to participate. I'm afraid there is no prize at the end of the ride. Eternal fame perhaps, but I'm afraid not. :)

To start the month off I gave my Handyman a good clean and oil treatment.
It's shiny, snaps like and aligator and smells lemony fresh.
Ready for all that comes it's way.

I confess, I'm not very familiar with the Handyman. I hope you'll explain some of the features of your handyman as you get going.  :tu:

Yup, that's right. In short the challenge is quite similar to the Chuck Yeager (Executive) Challenge:
- Carry only the Handyman for a month.
- Report every day how it was used.
- Pictures are much appreciated!

So far the Handymen Challenge is taken by:
- Mactire404
- RF52

May the SAK be with us!

Day 1

Yes! The challenge has begun. And on a rather special day I might add. 1st of April is both Aprils fools and Easter this year.
I wonder if Victlrinox ever pulled an Aprils Fools joke?

Handyman and Easteregg

In preperation of brunch I had a nice snack. Crackers with Les Roussin. It was nowhere near as smelly as I anticipated. But very tasty.
One day I wil get a Vic Cheesknife, but for today, the Handyman will do.

Handyman, Les Roussin and Melba Toats

Becaus of delayed shipment and an additional order I have two SwissCards coming up which I can't take with me during the challenge.
At least I know what knife will open the packages...

Day 2

Easter! I like easter. I hardly ever make soft-boiled eggs anymore so today was a treat. I used the large blade to remove the cap of the egg.

Handyman and soft-boiled egg

It's only when I put aside my OH folder that I notice how much cutting I do on a day.
A lot is done in passing by, where my girlfriend grabs a pair of scissors from the kitchen drawer I reach for my right hip.
Oh, that's right. I'm doing a challenge, my Smallbenza isn't there. And I reach for my left pocket, grab the Handyman and deploy the blade.
There are a lot of small tasks like opening packaging, or snipping small rope ties. These things are so casual I don't really think about taking a photo.

Day 3

Just another day at work. I as very happy with the file to re-assemble a binder. If you are wondering, why is the tip of his file damaged? There is a perfectly fine explanation. I'm not sure if I ever told this before, but that's a whole other story.

Handyman file and binder

Keep your friends close, but your enemies SAK closer.
That way, you will always have a tool at hand to remove a stubborn stuck hatch!
