I've been off the radar for a couple of days. I did keep up the challenge, made photo's whenever I could.
It was incredibly busy at work, I actually had to do some work >:( I don't get paid enough for this!
On the bright side, I had a long weekend off. Had to do some work at my vacation house and we spend a couple of nights in a hotel. Unfortunately the wifi was wonky at best and my mobile internet connection had pracitcally zero reception there  :(
I've got a little moment now, so I have time to catch up.
Please excuse me for putting it all in one post.

Day 4
Not much action for the Handyman. I ran my a$$ off at work. Saw some time to go to the bathroom.
However, some genius removed the hooks from the door and since I can't put my white coat on the floor I had to pull a classic one: using a multitool to create a hook.

Day 5
Again, crazy at work. In the evening I used the pen to draw a map to explain some things.
After about 20 years of carry I replaced the scales on my Handyman with plus scales, thus adding a pen and a pin.
Both are used frequently.

Day 6
What day is it? Friday! I woke up early thinking I had to go to work, but nothing could be further from the truth, I have a day off. As I wrote before I had some work to do in my vacation home which is on the other side of the country. We expected the weather to be rather cold, so we stayed in a hotel. Before we drove off I replaced the batteries in my keychain light.

Day 7
The work that had to be done was taking down part of a bed (3 beds above eachother) to make room for a double bed on the bottom. This is no job for a Handyman and I had to bring out the big(ger) guns.
Over the winter, mice nested in our cushions and we had to throw them out. We had one bin-bag left so my dad drove to the store to get some more. I got bored and decided to make a fire.
I've done bow-drill fired before but could not find any string. So I opted for a hand powered one instead.


I used the saw to break up some pine in managable pieces. The storm earlier this year brought down enough big branches.
Pocketknives are not suited for battonning, but you can improvise. I cut two narrow slits with the saw, then make a shallow cut in the same direction with the large blade. I cut a small wedge from another piece of pine and stuck it in the slit.

A few taps with another log and presto, a fire board!

I used the awl to make a small hole, once through I drilled from the other side. With the saw I made a v-cut. Don't make it to wide. Finally, with the small blade I made a conical cavity for the drill to fit into.

I stripped a straight piece of branch of it's bark with the large blade and cut a conical tip at the end.
Unfortunately, this was also the end of my fire-making attempt. My dad got back and we were a little pressed for time because we had a dinner reservation and lots f work to do!  :facepalm:

Day 8
I didn't get any use out of my Handyman this day. Sadly, my fire-starting attempt has left a lot of the tools gunked up with resin. I'll be able to easily clean it at work, where we have alcohol dispensers everywhere. I need to refill the alcohol prep-pads I usually carry in my bag.

*sweats* Hard day at work. I did not have much time to do anythings else but seeing patients.
I did see a small opportunity to try the instant coffee I took from my hotel. I needed a spoon and the large blade was a beautiful alternative.

Day 10

Desk duty today. I had the tedious task of importing data from CD-ROM. These things come by mail so the Handyman doubled as mail-opener. Because of privacy reasons I can't make a photo of this.

Every now and then I had to stop for a coffee. I'm getting used to the Nanopresso and cleaning it afterward is a breeze now.
I put my Handyman beside it when I was not using it for opening letters.
During the day I saw some photo opportunities, those were posted in other threads.

No photo's today I'm afraid. I recall some minor cuttings tasks, like opening a package.
Again hard work today and zero time to think about anything else. When I got home, all I wanted to do was sleep.
Sad story? Perhaps. But I need to work in order to get money for SAKs, so It's all worthwhile. :tu:

Day 12
Not much to report. Of course, my Handyman has kept me company the entire day, but apart from some package opening it didn't see much use.
We're one third in the challenge and I can say the Large Blade get's the most use up until now.
Both of us are eagerly awaiting the arrival of a SwissCard. When it does the Handyman has a package to open and I something to put on a shelf  :)
