The woods at hand:
Free fall limbs, though they don't look like this on the forest floor. Silly as it may seem, I don't like to use power tools, and working with wood is therapy. Just the sound of sandpaper and polishing rags and small hand saws and little knives shaping up rough edges.
I seldom carve seriously--mostly I just shape the joints and finish the wood. But I am looking to get started with some detail work. But I don't want to make a stick that has so much delicate artwork on it that it is no longer useful for hiking or walking, out of concern for ruining the work.
