A bit early here, but I got the barman to make me an Old Fashioned with Wild Turkey. Not a great bourbon, but it seems to work in an Old Fashioned.

BBC news just announced the Jazz pianist Cecil Taylor passed away at age 89.

I've heard his name, but can't claim to be familiar with him, per se. I hope we'll hear a bit more about him as this news is processed.

Quote
“There is only one musician who has, by general agreement even among those who have disliked his music, been able to incorporate all that he wants to take from classical and modern Western composition into his own distinctly individual kind of blues without in the least compromising those blues, and that is Cecil Taylor, a kind of Bartok in reverse.”

Jazz 91 is playing a track from Quadro Nuevo at the moment. Fun track. Sounded a bit Latin and a bit European. Turns out it's a German band. Never heard of them before.

Learning about new (to me) bands is one of the reasons I love listening to new radio stations...or old stations, for that matter.

Helena used to have very little traffic, but in the last few years we've seen an increase in people, housing, and....traffic.

Seems a lot of actors have tried to have a go at a musical career.

Kevin Spacey sings like Sinatra really well.

This is the kind I don't like. It's more like a jam session with a bit of background rhythm

For me, tracks like the Murley one are good background music. Not brilliant, not too engaging, but pleasant. These often take on a 'spontaneous' quality, but are usually quite constrained. But nice.

I'm streaming through the computer, so the updates are more predictable.

This is Keith Jarrett.

I've been to Toronto several times, so it's fun to hear the newscaster talk about some roads and streets I'm familiar with.

Toronto is worth a visit if you get the chance.

Tons of great food, several nice museums, plenty to do.

I found a cool knife store in Toronto. Small, but great collection of knives for kitchen, EDC, and some specialty tasks. Didn't feel like spending the money at the time, but I left a sweet friction folder behind there......

Some  Blues in less than an hour on KBEM.

If you guys like Bluegrass they have a good Saturday morning show and then Celtic music later in the day.
