Enjoying the program this afternoon.

We plan on tuning into some NoLA jazz tomorrow (10 AM El C time) and probably some blues tomorrow evening (if Marc hasn't passed out). Hope to see you here!

Last set was pretty good. This stuff is just a bunch of noise.

I'll be patient for a while, but may find some alternative programming...........

So, Marc, earlier we were talking about TSA confiscations.

I agree with most of what you said, but have a couple of points to dispute with you:

First, you said there was no excuse to approach a TSA checkpoint with a bladed knife. True, the responsibility lies with us for making sure we aren't carrying something valuable that might be confiscated for violating the 'rules.' But that's a bit easier said than done, in some ways. Those of who always have a knife or six on our person often forget that there is a knife in a pocket, especially a pocket in a bag or backpack.

My wife probably says "this is why you can't own nice things" once or twice a month as she discovers a knife or pen of flashlight in one of my pants or shirt pockets as she's doing the laundry (she doesn't trust me to do the laundry.).

Sometime around 1988 or 1989, my wife gave me this sterling silver Classic. It's engraved on the other side with my initials.

I think it was for my birthday.  I don't quite remember. But I've had the Classic for well over 20 years now. I carried and used it quite a bit (as you can see) as a keychain. So one day, in the early 2000's, just as this TSA clampdown is kicking off, I'm running through the airport check-in when an agent spots this deadly weapon and say he'll have to confiscate it. Not allowed on the plane, turn it in or find another way to get rid of it.

Which brings me to my second disputation: few TSA checkpoints have envelopes to mail your personal goods back to yourself or someone else.

So, I panic. There is no way I'm giving up this special Classic; one that has significant sentimental value for me. I leave the airport. Find a place that sells padded envelopes, and then hit a post office where I can mail the Classic back to myself. Huge hassle. But obviously several disasters were averted.

My point being, that it some of these things are so common and familiar for us that we don't even notice we are carrying a prohibited 'dangerous' item. I never thought about that Classic; it was just always with me. As a Classic should be.

The sad thing is that since that incident, I almost never carry that Classic. I don't want to risk it's being confiscated by some other officious Smurfer if I forget I've got it dangling off a keychain.
