Favorite scotch/kentucky bourbon?

Well I just posted a beer thread so might as well do this one. I have not branched out into the bourbon world any farther than Makers Mark so I guess that is my favorite. Never tried a single malt scotch (gasp, i know) so I would like to try that. I am looking to try something semi nice sometime soon (not nice enough to blow a hole straight through my wallet). Either kentucky bourbon or single malt scotch. What is your favorite? Any recommendations?

I never really got into drinking because of my medical, but a few things I did try were the obviously Jim beam/coke or once old grand dad/coke, and one other called a snake bite: Yukon jack/lime juice..

I tried a few single maltw, but they have quite difficult Scottish names with many consonants, hard to remember and impossible to spell and pronounce. I always order a Chivas Regal myself. It goes perfectly with Drambuie, one of the few liquors I really like (another is Metaxa 7 stars).

I thought the bourbon barrel reserve was cool, they age it the last couple years in  new charred american oak, before that in used bourbon barrels. Seems like a neat tip of the hat to American bourbon while still being a Scotch. Plus the color matched my shirt. ;)

Abelour 10 year old are one of my favourite single malts.

I first had Tullamore when a friend of mine, a bar owner, served me what he called Sweet Tipperary, a cocktail of one part whiskey and two parts vermouth, with lots of ice and a cherry. The original recipe had one part whiskey, one part vermouth, and one part chartreuse, but I never had it.

Scotch wiskey is much more widespread than Single Malts and Kentucky Burbon. I only ever tried 1 Kentucky Burbon (and that was 30 years ago) and a few, 2-3 Malts from Scotland. How could I know which one is my favourite?
And what's all the fuss about spirits made from barley, maize, rye, even potato, when you have the holly and jolly fruit of Dionysus to make spirits from? They call it Brandy people. French drink it and French are all about the taste.
And when you get sun-dried Savatiano, Soultanina and Black Korinth grapes double distillate aged for 3-80 years in french oak limousin barrels and then mix it with a small amount of aged sweet muscat wine from Samos and Lemnos and then infuse it with a secret recipe of herbs and rose petals and leave it to mature is Samos muscat wine barrels for a year, Metaxa is what you get.




Leave the maize for Pop Corn gentlemen.

I like a wiskey of the Canadian variety. Crown Royal is my favorite. I prefer the Reserve and even more so the XO version.
