Screen Capture Software - What do you use?
on: April 06, 2018, 12:35:17 PM
I've recently been doing a lot of screen capturing for training purposes and have used FS Capture for years to do this kind of thing.  It's a great piece of software that is really versatile and has a portable version that can be run from any USB stick so doesn't have to be installed on a PC, so it's great for a locked down system like ours at work, and it sure beats that winblows snipping tool into the dirt.

What sort of things do you guys/gals use?

Yes but you have to use another program to do any manipulations to the screenshot.  I was talking more of awl in one solution like I use.

On my laptop I hit Print Screen and then paste it in MS Paint.

But then, I am a bit techy and I know that solution doesn't necessarily work for those with lesser skillz than mine.....

in linux (or at least my setup) alt-printscreen takes a screenshot of the active app and asks what to do with (save as/where to save etc).
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

At work, Snipping Tool

At home, CTRL-PrintScreen or just PrintScreen, cause I'll do all manipulations in GIMP anyways

At work, I use Win7 and the Snipping Tool, usually to select an area --- it works well.  In the past I would use PrintScreen --- and I also learnt that Alt-PrintScreen would copy just the active window, so you don't have to crop it.

At home Linux Mint has a ScreenShot utility that can grab the whole screen, current window, select an area, with or without pointer, and with a time delay.....  but I don't use it much as home.

Snipping tool. You can assign a shortcut for it, very handy.
If it is something I need on more devices, say I take a screengrab on my PC I want to access on my mobile, I use the Evernote app plugin in Chrome.
