Do you have a buy number or percent?
on: April 11, 2018, 01:13:26 AM
  I just bought another SwissChamp, why?  It was over 50% off and minty (no box though).
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Swiss-Army-Victorinox-Officer-Suisse-Multi-Function-Knife-with-Case/323202141010?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
For some reason, if a knife is over 50% off I have a hard time resisting it especially if it's mint-in-box.
A while back a guy was selling SwissChamps for $12-22 dollars each and that's how I ended up with a few.
Then he was selling Explorers for $10-14 each and I wound up with a few of those.  All used, but quite decent condition.

At some point I will have to resist them, but it's hard to pass on them when I value them so much.

Do you have a number or buy price that you find irresistible?

At those kinds of discounts, you'd be foolish not to buy some more. :tu:

I think I may have bought 3 of each as I do prefer in box, but those were some amazing prices, probably airport seizures.

Don't get greedy G-man.  One of those no box Explorers with a hook and plus scalse would have a great home over here.  :pok: :pok:

Seriously F B those are some great deals.
I look forward to being able to get back in the deal game I just have other priorities at the moment.

Congratulations on the find FB! :like: :tu: :tu:

If I saw a Swiss Champ at that price I would have bought it too.
There are times when you just don't pass up on a deal.

I would say in general that if I see a knife for 50% or less I would pick it  up.

Just make it two dozens, that's a round number.

 :pok: :pok:

No, wait. That'd be 30. 30 is rounder than 24...

For me, it's the price, not the discount. A $100 Swisschamp with 50% discount? I prefer a couple of those you got, FolderBeholder!

Oh, awlmost forgot:

General That!

€25 for a rare SAK.

It's what I payed for my Swissflame.
It's also the amount I payed for my NIB horn scaled Golfer :dd:

In general, no. It would have to be an extremely deep discount or nearly a giveaway to get my attention. I suppose it's because I've got plenty, not looking for any more repetition than I already have, which is limited to a only a few. I was scooping up Tinkers with trashed large and pen blades for their back side Phillips for a while a couple years ago. Didn't matter if it was a 91mm or 84mm. With them it was a dollar threshold which wasn't very high for a thoroughly thrashed SAK.

Does that equation have any defined limits to give it an upper and lower bounding?

I've made the mistake of duplicating too often.  I usually upgrade thinking I'll sell the non-boxed one and I never do.

I have a small set of organizer drawers in which I've stashed some of my SAKs. A couple of drawers contain the Wenger, and a couple more contain the SAKs that found their way to me that I'm never going to use. Mostly 58mm plus some large and small Tinker I was accumulating for the Phillips. Some of those Tinker turned out to be in such good condition I couldn't bring myself to sacrifice them as organ donors so I found other thrashed ones beyond redemption. A couple more that had been sacrificed were resurrected with the corkscrews their Phillips had replaced, converting them into Spartans. I use them as giveaways to folks without a SAK who I think would use one, that went out of their way to do something kind or thoughtful they didn't need to. Who would use a SAK? My litmus test: someone who isn't afraid of duct tape. The population is very slowly going down, but also evolves as another wayward SAK finds its way there awaiting a good home.

Percent for me is meaningless unless the original cost was within my budget.  I think spending $50 these days tends to have me really questioning my purchase.

Lately, it's just a max price. But I've been doing those '$5 Challenge', '$10 Challenge' things.

It's probably good for budget, since i know if it goes over X price, I'm out, and won't be tempted to get in a bidding war.

Generally, though, it's more fixed max than percentage.
