What was your first?
on: April 13, 2018, 12:58:01 PM
It's been a while since we did this, so here goes:

1- What was your first SAK and/or multitool?

2- Do you still have it?

My first SAK was a Victorinox Camper, and I still have it.  My first multitool was a Leatherman Micra and I liked it to much I went back the next day and bought the PST II.  I then gave the Micra to my girlfriend at the time.

My first SAK was a Vic Tourist given to me by Magentus. It was sent out as part of Dolly's stash and I thought she was dangerous enough without it.

My first ever multitool was a Gerber Legend, which I had for years at work.  After that was gone it was replaced with a LM Surge which is still my favourite multi.

My first one was a Vic Champion from the 1980ies. Lost a long time ago.

Last year got a refurbished champion with wood scales of ebay. So it's back. Somehow...

My first multi is a Spirit. Have it with me at the moment.

First SAK was a knockoff Classic when I was about 6 years old and then got a Wenger at 7. Still have both and cherish them deeply. First real SAK purchase as a teenager was a Camper and still have and carry it on occasion.  :tu:

First was a Victorinox Fisherman (?) in the early 80s. Lost it years and years ago - likely while fishing so at least that was fitting.

Replaced by a Leatherman PST in the late 80s. I still got that one.

My first SAK was an economy Spartan, purchased along with some Swiss chocolate with some left-over Swiss francs on my first trip to Switzerland. Long gone.

My first multitool was a Gerber Legend Multi-plier. A Christmas gift from my Dad, and sitting in the car tool box.

Gerber multitool on the right.

I got a SOG Crosscut which I carried for a LONG time. I got it some time in the mid-late 90s. Between 1994ish and 1997, I'd guess.

I do not have it any more. I gave it to a friend, who has since trashed it pretty severely. (Somehow managed to lose the bolt holding all the tools in on one handle).

The story begun around 1999, when I found a SAK at my friend’s step-father home, it was just sitting in a drawer doing nothing, so he gave it to me. It was a handy little gadget and I kept it on my keyring for a while. It was too heavy for key ring really, after I started driving later that year, I took it off and kept it nearby until it MIA after we move in our new home in 2010. After that I looked it up on internet and learned that one was called the “Mechanic”.

It was 1976. Grandfather gave me a Climber, red scales. Classic. I thought it was awesome and felt ready for anything.

Sadly that climber fell out of my pocket somewhere in Wyoming......or somewhere....

I had several pocket knives growing up, maybe even a SAK or two if my memory serves me right; which it doesn’t nowadays.

It was early in spring and she was wearing a short number and as things got heavy I....Ooops, just read the post 😜

It was a MiniChamp that literally was my toolbox when I moved out of the house and living from place to place. I eventually gave it away to my bestest friend I met 20+ years ago. We were able to keep in touch and now he’s my next door neighbor. He still has it, as well as all the LM tools I gave him over the years for his car, etc.

Was given a Vic Explorer when I was a teenager by my Dad. Still have it and carry it, although the scales have been changed, because the originals were broken. First MT was a Gerber MultiPlier V.3 given to me by my Dad when I was in my early 20s(the MP was old whenI got it). Still have it and it still works great/sees pocket time here and there.  :)

I think my first multi tool was a PST knockoff. I still have it.  I have a couple of small SAK's.  Probably one of them was my first, but I don't carry them or collect them or know where they are so.....

Now my first Plierench.  I bought it from Goodwill. It was a pre 1925 version with the straight teeth. Started me down a long winding expensive path....

My first was an old Huntsman (no T&T slots) grooved corkscrew, tweeked saw blade that I found out in the desert while walking my dogs about 1990. I repaired it and it road in my glove box for 10 years before I bought my first one an Eco Tinker
 Still have both.

My first SAK was this Champion.

I have collected knives since I was 8 years old, but I had never seen a real Swiss Army knife until I was in my 30's, and this is the first one I saw.
I had only seen the cheap knock-offs of Swiss Army Knives before that.

We had a MacDonald's Sales Center in town..it was a store that had one of everything displayed and then you told them which items you wanted and they brought them to you from the back store room.

I saw the  Champion on display and asked to look at it and was completely in awe of the quality of it and the number of tools it had and I bought it.....that started my SAK addiction....I ended up being a Victorinox dealer for a number of years.
