Boker Kalashnikov Mini
on: April 14, 2018, 06:08:35 PM
I'm working in Tennessee this month which is a state that has few, if any, knife restrictions. Having spent the majority of my time in New York City, which is very knife restrictive, I thought I'd treat myself to my first automatic knife. So I picked up a Boker Kalashnikov Mini from Smoky Mountain Knife Works and I have to say I quite like it. The action was stiff at first but it has broken in nicely. The blade is a bit thick for my taste but at least it is full flat grind. The steel seems a little soft but sharpens quickly. Having the blade fly open with the touch of a button, while not truly necessary, is really kind of fun :D What is also fun is being able to carry it clipped to my pocket which is strictly forbidden in NYC. It is nicely made and seems completely worth the $40 I spent on it.

There is something quite satisfying about shooting that blade open 9,000 times per day.

Not a bad looking knife! I wish my state allowed carry of autos, I'm hoping the law will change, but obviously not with our current governor.  At least I can own them, but you can't buy or sell then in VA either.

I have the Colonial Sport 33, which instead of an automatic opening blade, has a screwdriver/shackle key/bottle opener combo and a slipjoint 440C sheepsfoot blade. I can't help avoiding opening it a few times every time I pick it up (which they say excessive firing of an auto can break the spring). I'd like to swap that with a strap cutter, as I don't think that's within the definition of a "blade".

That may have had something to do with how quickly it broke in  ::)
