Help identifying these scales
on: April 14, 2018, 09:56:17 PM
Good day gentlemen! These scales keep popping up on my board of interesting pins but none of the links go anywhere. Does anyone have any information on what scales these are? It seems like they have added a spoon to our beloved sak. Possibly making it a rare Swiss army hobo knife.

Looking at the inside of the "spoon" it appears to me they're custom made scales from orange Micarta. An interesting concept with the poultry engraved on the side.

Great! Looks like I need to dust off the book of faces and see if this Anna is selling them. Don't suppose anyone could point me in her direction on the Facebook?

If I remember correctly she's an engineer and was playing around with ideas like this.  It was just a prototype.  I'm not even sure if it was made with food grade plastics.  I don't think the spoon was retained very firmly.

Drat because I like having as many features in the scales as possible.  Perhaps someone  :pok: will come up with a titanium prototype.  I think Ti is safe with food.

Yes Ti works fine.  I have made a Ti fork, but a spoon is harder.  Ti that thick would be way too expensive, so Id have to hand form it with hammer and anvil form.  On a large scale a hydrolic forming machine would be used, but I dont have one.  :D

Now that I think about it, I use a fork more than a spoon.  Nice work on that fork!  :like:

A spoon on the scales a clever idea but having the whole SAK gunked up with pistachio flavour ice cream doesn't sound too appealing... I'd really rather have separate bits of metal for eating.
