Nice thread.  Here are my favorites:

-  Compact (but ruled out for weight)
-  Alox Cadet
-  84 mm Golfer
-  84 mm Golfer modded with Alox scales.  Whoops, that's a Voyageur.  ;-)
-  Voyageur

in black :-)
Lol, it’s like a piece of paper when you look at it edge-on.  :like:

Yup -- mighty thin, but still not as thin as it gets . . .

The Excelsior is a half a millimeter thinner and the Beginner knocks almost 3/4 millimeter off of that! They are extremely thin knives. The Excelsior, Sentry and Beginner are the thinnest knives I've ever handled.

Mine measured 8.2mm, a hair thinner than the 8.5mm thick 93mm Pioneer Solo. The scales are the same as used on the Alox Bantam as compared to the thick scales found on the 93mm Alox.

Lots of great input here...

I'm thinking it's really splitting hairs not to include the compact as a contender... Which leads me to second guess including the Spartan

Maybe 85mm 2 layer should be the cutoff...

Does anyone else want to "weigh in" on what constitutes a "lightweight " SAK??

It's a bit subjective, but I like the 2 layer 85mm as a cut off.
Interesting that people keep mentioning the Compact after it was disqualified.  Just saying.

Best lightweight. Compact. Tinker-Small if you don't wear glasses or like scissors. Or a Cadet.

I think most single layers Alox are too thin. A light weight knife should be able to do everything you can with a big knife, even if it takes longer, without your hand starting to hurt. A single layer cellidor is fine, they are thicker, but there aren't a lot of good single layers in production right now, and other than the Waiter none of them have backside tools. I think the loss of the backside tools cuts down the viability of the Bantam. No savings in weight or bulk, but you loose the holder for the glasses screwdriver and the twisty awl. And if you don't wear glasses or drink wine, limited utility.

Of course, if Vic made a Waiter with a backside phillips.... Nope, that would never sell. Not in a million, billion years. I mean, what would you call it? An Apprentice? Nah, that's a stupid name.Maybe even a small blade against a full sizes cap lifter for the stronger screwdriver, with the backside phillips.

Funny...  I used to dislike the keyring but have become so accustomed to the p7 pocket clip,  I scarcely carry a sak without keyring anymore.

I admit,  the kr can be uncomfortable when  putting the large blade to work...  but for me, the benefit of not having a sak fall out of my pocket, and be comfortably secured in the pocket outweighs the discomfort the kr may cause.

Been thinking the past days about the Bantam, why does only the celidor version have keyring and why can I only find it in silver..

For me wasn't even just of getting in the way when in use, it also was the constant rattling around, and didn't felt as comfortable in the pocket.  I never used or liked anything attached to my sak's, so for pocket use, for me this is ideal  :tu:

Top contenders identified with updated qualifications (85mm or less, 2 layers or less)

85mm - Viking, Commander, Highlander, Evo 10, Entrée

84mm - Tourist, Tinker Small, Sportsman, Golfer, Cadet, Waiter, Bantam, Voyageur

74mm -  Executive, Ambassador

75mm - Pocket Tool Chest

58mm - Rambler/Manager

What am I missing?

I know this is very subjective

Wenger Evo 11 - the Evo 10 with Phillips.

There are also the Vic equivalents of them . . . including the Evo S101 and Evo S111 which have locking blades.

The Evo 10, 11, 101 and 111 are all variants of the same two layers with Phillips or Corkscrew and small clip blade or nail file. Those with an "S" have locking blade.
