I'd imagine at some point the bike will need maintenance, then what? At some point the bikes will need to be removed from service, then what? From the picture it looks like China is experiencing what may be inevitable in cities like mine.

I assume maintenance issues are reported to the company, and the company dispatches someone to fix the bike. I know about the issues China is having, but the mindset in China is a good deal different than in the US. In China, it seems that if something works, then just flood the market with that product. That's not how it works in the U.S., necessarily.
Really???For many if us Bicycle Riding is not a realistic option at all.Does that put me into the Redneck camp to you too?If it were only that simple.

In fairness Pabs, he did imply it by saying if you weren't in one camp then you were in the other "redneck" camp, which if I was American then I would probably take issue with too.... but I'm not, so I don't give a toss. Anyway, life's too short to get irate about things... and I don't think any offence was intended was it?
