Rebar with scissors?
on: April 28, 2018, 12:32:08 PM
I'm getting ready to add a pair of scissors to my Rebar and l've noticed that some prevoius modders claim that they didn't need to trim the thumb tab.
l've got both new and old Wave scissors and they both look like they're going to need need to be trimmed.
What's the scoop on getting unmodified scissors into the Rebar?
Cheers
George

What tool are you swapping for the scissors? I replaced the cap lifter/opener once without issue.

At the moment,  it looks like l can squeeze the scissors in without sacrificing anything. l basically removed the lanyard ring and a thick washer and moved the cap lifter over to the side with the awl and screwdrivers. The scissors are now on right side of the phillips. It's tigh, but seems to be OK.

If l had to loose a tool it would be the serrated blade but l understand the issues with the cutout  to clear the lock hinge.

From what l can see l wont be able to get the tool to close properly unlesss l cut the scissor tab.

It all depends on the scissors. Some of us didn't have to do anything with the scissors to have it close properly and some did.

l'm aware of 4 different leatherman scissors that are fitted as inside tools; the PST ll type, the Pulse type and 2 types of Wave/Charge/Fuse etc.
As mentioned, l have two versions of the Wave etc type and they are both the same overall length.
Is there a type of scissor that l'm not aware of?

There are different versions of the Fuse/Blast and New Wave/Charge scissors.

I don't know anyone that has used the PST II/OG Wave or Pulse scissors in this mod.

If that's the case I have a pair of the newer wave scissors that I have tried and have worked for this mod if you need. You can pm me if interested.

Hi Kaput,
Interesting, there must obviously be more versions.
l thought there was only two types of Wave scissors and l thought that l had both versions.
Both of the ones I have are about 3-4 mm too long and hit the plier spring thingy.
lf your're  certain that your version fits flush below the spring, I am definitely interested and l will PM you. I would prefer to have one that is unmodified.
l'm away from work for a couple of days, but l'll measure the length of the ones l have when l get back.
Cheers
George

Have you checked to see if they will work ?  Because my scissors sit on top of the plier spring and they close fine

Yes, l have installed both types and although they "close", the handles do not touch.
Maybe l'm being too fussy!

Just drill the rivet out. That piece doesn't do much...

That piece helps to make the handles stay together.. I agree its not much but there is definitely a little difference when they are removed..

Try grinding a little off of the back of the scissor tab.

Drilling out the rivet and removing the spring plate sounds a bit too brutal for me.
l'll just try grinding the scissors tab and if that doesn't work then l'll trim it.
l just thought that l must be missing something.
Cheers

Tensioning the fasteners correctly will cover that. It's been years now and I haven't missed them. ST300 also doesn't have them...

Funny, I have the same idea and currently wait for a package from Loki (Wave scissors).
My plan is to move the small flat screwdriver to the other side (remove the spacer for that).
Then the lanyard ring still is to thick, so either file it down or add a slim spacer there so the scissors fit.
I'll see how that goes  :)

Hi MTMatt,
Yes, l finished mine a few weeks ago, but l didn't  post any pics as l haven't found a replacement image hosting site after the Photobucket fiasco...

l went a slightly different way to the one you took but we both got there in the end. :tu:

On one handle l have the PE knife, can opener, large screwdriver, awl, small screwdriver, and file.

The other side has the SE knife, the Phillips driver, scissors and saw. The scissors l used were the Wave type and l only had to trim the tab a few mm.

When l saw yours l wondered if you knew something l didn't, so l thought about swapping to your layout.

However, l think the handle of the scissors l used would need to be further trimmed to clear the awl, so l left it as it was.

Cheer
George

Ah, cool  :tu:
Yes, I did clear the thumb rest (handle) a bit for the awl too.
It's still big enough to use the scissors for everything they can normally handle.

Btw, how did you manage to squeeze 6 tools into one side?

Greets,

Matt
