Actually, I love to save my fingernails and slide the driver under the pull-tab to lift it up.

I know you can do it, D_T!   :tu: :tu: :tu:

Day 22

This morning I used the jeweler’s driver to
tighten a screw on my partners reading glasses
Now at least they sit on her face properly

No problems with using the jeweler’s driver  :tu:

Thanks for the votes of confidence, lads

Meanwhile, on Day 22, the can opener finally got a go at three cans I found in my mum's larder and were a bit over the sell by date. I must say, after a little bit of getting used to it, it worked reasonably well. The angle of the cutting edge seems to indicate the opener should be operated around the can by pushing forwards in the clockwise direction (i.e. with the left hand) but the bulk of the handle bottom is in the way. Turns out anticlockwise with the right hand works too, somewhat less effective than theoretically possible because of the wrong skew, but OKish.

Cheers!

D_T, I was looking closely at your can opener.

I think the factory grind on your opener was far superior to the grind on mine. Your can opener seems to have been ground in such a way as to give you a decent point on the tip. I had to regrind mine significantly to achieve that.

I'm amazed at the difference between our initial grinds. Glad yours is a worker!   :tu:

My PAD must have been made Monday morning, after a long weekend.

Thanks Wspeed :tu:
Agreed Nix, the point is pretty sharp and the forward edge halfway so, so I think I could easily improve it...

My replacement Powerlock got delivered today.

Amanda at SOG was great to work with and I'm pleased with the swap.

The Powerlock is certainly a bit quirky and eccentric, but the quality is definitely a couple of steps above my, now-returned, PAD. Maybe I just got a lemon.  I'll save specific thoughts for a Powerlock challenge.....starting tomorrow.  :tu:

In the meantime, I'll follow along with you guys as you finish up this Access to Power challenge!  :salute:

Awesome! They sent you the slightly slimmer version (newest). I like it a bit more than the older models for general carry. Enjoy it. One of the few tools made that is almost the same as when it first came out.

Day 22:
China cabinet and the old oak blues. The oak is lways warped and/or skewed around the door, because of heavy glass. Removed the door, squared it up, filed the burr off a screw, drilled holes for a catch, put the door back on, and installed the catch pin on the door. Now for boat loads of finish work. :ahhh

great on the new PowerLock! I will say it's probably the multitool model that I have abused the most throughout the years (I've had 3, now just 1)  and it took it like a Champ. I've dropped it from 20ft on concrete, hammered on it with tools and wooden sticks :ahhh, stabbed and pried with the tips of the jaws and used it as a bludgeon on occasion

Other than a few scratches, dents and bendung it's still like new and works flawlessly. :like:

I removed the covers on all three but they are nice to have.
Yes the inner tools leave a bit to be desired but are sufficient and the jaws/pliers are the main attractive to this tool.

One particular thing I've not heard anybody mention here is that the Compound Leverage is helpful in doubling the gripping force but also the opening force,
something that I've taken profit of when stabbing into drywall and then opening the tool to widen the hole, when prying things apart with the jaws, etc.

It is an advantage that none other multi tool manufacturers can claim to have on their tools , at the expense of having a wider arc of movement and plier handle separation when opening the jaws   :P

Day 23

I was having my first cup of coffee this morning
Outside on our bench When I noticed that the seat was broken

I measured the seat with the PAD at 45mm
So I found some screws at 35mm
And used the 1/4 driver with the adapter and Philips bit
To fix the bench seat

I started with the 1/4 driver at 180 degrees
Which worked fine for the first part
But as I screwed in the last bit I had to use
The 1/4 driver at 90 degrees as I found
That the handles were twisting past each other
on hard to fit or remove screws

Overall it did the job well  :tu:

Good job on testing the durability, W! I have found the bit driver, being outboard on the PAD, makes it almost perfect for tough work.
