Borgs mod user badge request
on: May 04, 2018, 09:03:04 PM
This thing hasn't been out my pocket since i made it  :tu:
I wanted a simple two layer with mag glass but had no need for the Phillips so adapted the backside awl to fit opposite, i kept the two blades as i like having them, the important parts i got from a beat up old Champion and a liner from a Climber...i just had to re use the fluted corkscrew as i like those too  :salute:

As you can see the position of the Awl worked out perfectly, my measuring tape must be reasonably accurate  ;)

If I may ask what is it about the fluted corkscrew that you so adore? That is an interesting choice of favorite tools!

Thanks, regarding the corkscrew its purely aesthetic, i like the look of it far more than the plain one, to me its like pinstripes on an old car, it brings out the curves..i just like the look of it  :D

You tease us by flaunting the aesthetics of your fluted corkscrew, yet posting no picture showing it off!

Edit: I just realized it is indeed visible in the first picture, holding up the SAK. Visible, yet well hidden!

Edit 2: One other question, why did you move the awl from the back side to the front side? It is a two layer SAK, with two back side slots. The fluted corkscrew takes up one backside slot, but whats in the other one?

 :like:  ... that's gorgeous.

Just... how did you do it?
The backside awl would be too slim

GoatDragon, i moved the Awl because i didn't want the Phillips and struggled to think of something to replace it with, i decided on the Awl as i prefer inline awls and it would get more use than a screwdriver, as i used the original spring for the Mag glass and Phillips there is no place for a backside tool  :salute:

Thanks VICMAN  :tu:

Matt, its a cut and shut, yes it is slightly narrower but i used the base of the Phillips and its centred on that so it makes it the original width

It's actually very strong, its holding up well, Hth  :salute:

This is probably the most i will ever need to do with it and it did it with ease, as long as i keep it sharp i see no reason for it to break off  :tu:  I tested it on hardwood too and it seemed fine, there may be some cracking in a few years but that is easily dealt with  :D

Thanks VICMAN, i probably wouldn't do this again..had i known at the time you could squeeze a 93mm inline Awl in there like magentus has done and had i been more prepared i would have went that route  :tu: next time  :D

Thanks Barry
