Gerber Suspension Plier transplant. Tough Tool.

Another to do list checked. Originally wanted to do some "repair" on the tough tool as the tools are loose and the so call slip joints are not doing their job. Long story short, didnt quite work so I broke the whole tool apart.

Resulting in another Pliers head transplant.

The first trial broke the pliers spring tab on the suspension when doing the pressure grip test.

Figured out what went wrong, its sitting on a not so ideal angle. So when doing heavy pressure, the force will push the tab outwards. Causing it to fail. Did some regrinding to correct this. Second one held up well. Just have make sure the force is pushing downwards and not outwards. Well I hope that I am correct one this..... so far so good.

I think everyone agrees that this is a real upgrade. *Ahem* *Lerit*... I dun think anyone will cringe here.

This Pliers from the original Schrade is insanely strong. Insanely robust.

Some cut outs have to be done on the handle to accomodate the new pliers. Thankfully, the pivots size is the same and there's alot of material at the pivot area to do corrections.

And of course, the handle splay is taken care of.

And the tools loadout.

With the handle that I broke earlier, a very unoriginal half tool was created..

But because of the Saf-T lock and the thick handle, It actually feels very comfortable and secure. And it can take up to 5 all long tools. Now, this looks like a supersized Curve.

Back to the stripped down Schrade, the tools are just begging for modding! All high quality tools and there's alot of material around the pivot area to play around with. And the pivot dia is 4.5mm. I was quite worried its 4mm before I tear it apart.

Yes. Fully agree. So are the quality of the tools that comes with it. Its really a pity they way they are put together in a strange body......

Thanks Poncho, Obi, Nets and GLBM! This project was a bit of challenge. Quite a little different problems from the LM/Spirit one. Theres alot of material to remove on the Pliers pivot area and I can only use eyeballs as a gauge. So theres alot of time spent on the fitting, grinding and such.. It turned out pretty alright I think. I only hope that the suspension body can stand up to the new TT plier head.
