Collecting Accountants a new sub collection

Ok due to a bit of a tidy I have found quite a few accountant model knifes and thought I may try and get the set

At first I will try and restrict my self to the standard Large blade small blade long nailfile in all sizes although I do love the ones with scissors

(I am calling 84mm with this set up accountants as its my collection and I am allowed )

But to know what I need to find I need to know what I am missing or if it exists

So I have

Very nice!

Here are mine.

- 75mm stainless Accountants (three versions)

- 75mm Accountants (rosewood, horn, MoPearl)

- 84 mm Accountants (imitation pearl/cracked ice, imitation tortoise shell, stainless)

So add 75mm rosewood and 84mm tortoiseshell. I don't have any of the 68mms, and no further info in my notes.

Its more than just about scales :-)

68 mm



horn (slim) - fake tortoise shell (slim) - mop (wide)

The mop knife has only 3 pins. The shape is different to the other two knives. Its much wider (don`t know if you can see it on the pictures). All nailfiles openes from the left scale-side on the back.

75 mm



horn (wide) - mop (wide) - mop (wide) - horn (slim) - mop (slim) - mop (slim)

There are different pins as you can see, some are exposed, others are not. Also the arrangement of the pins vary as you can see on the two horn scales accountants.



Differences of the nailfiles.



The "long" long nailfile that goes all the way of the backspring, you open allways from the right scale-side on the back; the others you open from the left side. Does anybody know why? Maybe it has something to do with left- and right-hand knives...

The third from the left is mop, all others are different cellidor scales. Some are with toothpick and tweezers. There are all the slim design.
All but the mop have the "long" long-nailfile. All opens from the left, except the "short" long-nailfile.

Pretty sure it's just an age thing. This is how it is for 84mm Officer's knives, so I'm assuming it's the same here as well. The one on the top (the longer one) is newer - 1952+. The shorter one on the bottom is older - 1943-1951. The age of the tang stamps in your other picture seems to support this. The older long nail files with the nick in the front are somewhat odd - for old pre-51 Golfers they require the front scale to be cut out, while post 51 Golfers have the nail nick on the low part of the main blade backspring. I guess since everything was handmade in those days it wasn't a big deal.

Found the last missing 62 mm mop accountant. Here`s a picture with all available accountants, so 62mm, 68mm, 75mm, 84mm, all with exposed rivets.



Seems they used the same nailfile and small blade for the 68mm and the 75 mm

Found the last missing 62 mm mop accountant. Here`s a picture with all available accountants, so 62mm, 68mm, 75mm, 84mm, all with exposed rivets.

any one know what other scales were offered in 62mm

(I think if Ulli looks in his collection to check that should answer my question  )

Whow, those are great jaydar! I dont have any 62 mm accountant in horn. I have only mop handles in 62 mm and one horn. Comparing with the 42 catalog, there should be also some with stainless steel handles.
