A 91mm version of the 111mm Fireman: can it be done?

I was going to have my 91mm Weekender modded into a serrated Camper, by adding a saw, but then I thought why stop at that?

Can I have a 4 layer 91mm Victorinox SAK, with (from back to front) plain blade, serrated blade, saw, and openers? It would be a MiniFireman.  :D

I´m not worried about the bad ergonomics of two blade layers next to each other, but:

- what about the second small blade? Put in a combo tool instead?
- what about the back tool? I can´t have a second corkscrew, what are my options?

Please advice!

You could put the saw in between the two blade layers - might make access a bit easier.

Have you thought about replacing the small blade on the outside layer with the inline awl?  Then you can have the small blade on the layer with the serrated blade.  As for back tools, the chisel or fine drivers from the saw/file layers should be ok, with a washer to make up the difference in thickness.

Thanks Hiraethus,

I like the idea of placing the saw between the blades, hadn´t thought of that. I don´t want the inline awl however. It´s a great tool but I feel it belongs on 93mm. I would like a chisel on the back, but it would cost me. For this mod I have available a Camper and a Weekender, adding a chisel would force me to sacrifice my Handyman instead of a Camper. The second corkscrew does not really need a replacement provided it´s cut off at the base. This will leave an empty slot on the back but Who cares not.  :D

So ATM the plan is as follows:

1. Plain blade, small blade, corkscrew
2. Saw
3. Serrated blade, small blade, empty slot
4. Openers and awl

But maybe someone else will have a few more suggestions?

PS what about the inner liners? There will be three coming from the donor knives, how many would the mod require at least?

Hey magsie!

Could you build me a Compact with added wood saw and metal saw?

I'm trying to learn myself, but I only have the donor SAKs to try it with and they are in such a nice, vintage condition that I'd hate to ruin them...

Like a few days ago, taking apart an 84mm Grand Prix and dropped it...
Right on the knife tip

Hey Nick - if you provide all the donors then we can talk about it, but I have very little stock here dude - you probably own many more SAK's than I do  :pok: I'm doing Ron's for him as he's been very generous to me in the past and it's a way for me to repay that generosity.

I´ve selected the donor knives and I´m preparing the package.
Since today, Ascension Day, is a holiday overhere, it won´t ship until tomorrrow.
I´ll have a few pics and the final plan later today. ATM I´m busy waking up.

Package contents #1 - The donor knives

The donors are a Weekender (for parts) and a Camper (on the receiving end). I´m keeping the red nylon scales. The Weekender will give up its blade layer to the Camper. This layer has a keyring nub which must be removed. The corkscrew on the Weekender is an old fluted one and I want to keep it. The other corkscrew will have to be cut and put in the third layer.

I have a spare fine screwdriver for the back side if you'd like that instead of the cut off corkscrew?
