Challenge poll - Stack or Minimal?
on: May 09, 2018, 10:15:04 PM
After completing three 30-day challenges in a row (111 mm SAK, Rebar, Juice) it kinda became a habit and part of the daily routine for me, so I'm thinking about starting another one, but not sure what, can't decide if it should be a Stack challenge with my Swisschamp (the only SAK in my collection that fits the criteria) or a Minimal challenge with a bit more variety of the Golfer, DofE, Sportsman, Waiter bunch, with maybe a Wenger Commander having a cameo here and there. (Question to those in the know: it is allowed to use multiple SAK's fitting the criteria in one challenge, right?)

So, which one? Cast your votes.

Also, as the more, the merrier, I'd be happy to see anyone joining in the challenge which gets voted.

I'm planning to run the poll until Sunday and start the chosen challenge next Monday.

what is a "stack" in this context?

"SAK STACK Challenge   Start a new thread and post a photo of the sak (cybertool, swisschamp or toolchest) for thirty (30) consecutive days."

(And the Minimal is for 1-2 layer knives.)

Hmm. My XLT is getting restless, would it qualify?

Also got a new Workchamp. Decisions decisions. Would the "stack" challenge allow for switching off between the two?

Exeter, it'd be good to see a DofE go through the minimal challenge. :tu:

We see more minimalist challenges then stacked challenges. It may be interesting to see a office worker have to carry a Swisschamp instead of an Executive.

I'd be interested in seeing you do a Stack challenge M'friend. I'd also be happy to join in but have committed to the Camper challenge starting on the 14th.  :salute:

I've gotten my minimalist badge by carrying 30 different knives so you definitely can.

As to which you should do, I'd say go for both one after the other in whichever order you feel is right :D

Yeah, that's the plan! :D I just need help to decide which one to start with, hence the poll. :) Oh, and thanks for the confirmation!

I agree but that could be a small field of runners and riders ? Any equivalents acceptable

I definitely won't do the 30 days with only the DofE. :) Not that it's a bad SAK, quite the opposite, but the Minimal challenge allows for a great variety of models. Varietas delactat, right?

Does the Rangergrip 90 fit into the "Stack" category?

I guess the Stack challenge is for multi-layer 91 mm models (and of course the 85 mm Wenger Toolchest), but I'm sure someone will give a definitive answer.

Regarding the switching up of challenge items, if the original challenge allowed it then okay.
If it didn't then no.

I believe the minimal challenge allowed switching on wednesdays for wenger wednesday.
It also had an additional flashlight challenge.

We made an exception to the rule for Syem so it could be part of his year long epic journey.

We're not against flexing the rules some but please don't go looking to make things too easy.
If you want a badge in recognition and call it a challenge then it can't just be a stroll in the park.

Thanks zoidberg for clearing this up, and of course I did not intend to find loopholes or shortcuts, thats why I asked for clarification in the first place. So then the minimal challenge means one SAK model for 30 days - with the Wednesday exception -, got it. And what's the flashlight part?

Anyway, looking at the poll, tomorrow I'll start the Stack challenge, and I only have a Swisschamp, so definitely no room for confusion there. :)

Sorry, I'm on a phone atm and searching/linking is a mission.
The easy thing is a general comment and not at you.
Typically when challenges happen someone wants something changed instead of getting on board.

As Sunday is over in most parts of the world now, I'm closing the poll, and in accordance with the vox populi I will start my 30-day journey with my Swisschamp today.  :climber: Anyone  is welcome to join of course, it'salways more fun together.

Thank you to those who voted!  :salute:

(Image removed from quote.)

Stack challenge was originally intended to be for 91mm/85mm knives with 5 layers or more, but it seemed easier to limit it to group of models.  I suppose the 130mm knives could be included, but there's a separate badge for 111mm models, so there could be one for 130mm knives if there was enough interest.

Flashlight add-on was to pair your minimal sak with a minimal light - something like a single mode AAA or Photon - to see what was the least you could get away with.  IIRC, it's no issue switching knives during the challenge, but it' seems more like a challenge to me if you stick with just one.

Good luck with the Stack badge. :tu:

I'll join you Exeter. I'm already off to a good start by repairing a metal clasp on my Wife's bra with the SC pliers.
