What’s with the Heritage tools??
on: May 11, 2018, 12:14:04 AM
They now have the Wave+, Rebar, ST300, Charge and Micra as “Heritage” tools and on sale for 20% off, at Leatherman website.

What is “heritage “ about these, besides the leather sheath?

I just got their email and when I looked at the site, I had the same question. "Heritage" Plus models, introduced a couple of months ago? Really?

I am guessing they were trying to make them sound fancier with those sheaths but it didn't work :D

But they are giving a 20% price cut. So odd...

Heritage by definition; • denoting a traditional brand or product regarded as emblematic of fine craftsmanship.

Leatherman is offering a nice discount, with classic old brown leather snap sheath for their 35th year anniversary on a few of their classic models... I think it's great! Not sure why people wouldn't be happier with this news?

You can get the new Wave+ with 154cm replaceable cutter upgrade and leather sheath for $20 less than you normally would have off retail, oh and free shipping too?!  :salute: that's a win for the consumer.

I thank you Leatherman  :like:

Oh I thought it was great news. I just was curious about a Wave + being Heritage. I guess I missed that it was their anniversary and all.

I agree with you, well done Leatherman!!

The belt loops on those sheaths may not be long lasting though due to the single stitches. Leather quality may not be on par with the dark brown classic Wave sheath. To me, the one worth buying is the Heritage Micra.

Time for ECON 101  :D

If you have BJ's membership, they have Cabela's gift cards on sale: Pack of three $25 for $58.49. Cabela's is selling these at the same price as Leatherman website at the moment, with only $50 minimum purchase for free shipping for a limited time. Though you have to pay sale tax, you can get both the Rebar and Micra for about $58 net cost out of your pocket. I may just do that.

I checked my email later and also saw that it was for the 35th Anniversary :salute: Thank you LM :like:

The sale also comes not long before Father's day and that may have also pushed the sale :like:

So the heritage sheaths are not the same quality as the originals?
A shame as if you are wanting to provide a heritage piece duplicating the past, quality is what should be the priority.

Darn you Chrono!
I am traveling to Service call in NW Indiana and had talked myself out of visiting Cabelas there.
Then read your post and curiosity took hold of me and made the stop.
Found a Micra (had 2), and a Rebar (only 1 ) of the Heritage models. Fortunately I had a gift card for Cabelas in suit case, courtesy of my hotel points.

The sheath for Micra is pretty cute.

The strange thing is the regular models on the shelf still at full price, only Heritage packages discounted.

Thanks

You are welcome

I think the Micra sheath looks cute as well. At that price and that added sheath, the Micra price is right. I will stop by my local BJ's today to get a few Cabela's gift cards.

And any thought of purchasing a new Heritage Rebar and saving THAT money, has just been cancelled out and then some by Amazon raising the cost of my Prime membership by $20, effective immediately.

*just* got that email.

I've been thinking about cancelling mine--it's been incredibly rare that I've actually gotten something in two business days for the past year or so. It's been as much as a week.  Last Monday, I ordered a tablet from Woot! (owned by Amazon) and since I logged in with my Prime account, I was supposed to get the free prime shipping.  It was coming from California, and right now, just made it to Indiana.  It's expected to get here Wednesday or Thursday of this week--a week and a half from ordering! It takes less time than that to get stuff from Japan or Europe!.

in another thread (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,77260) , I posted about how to buy the Heritage tools for less on Cabela's website. The Wave+ and the ST300 cost me about $120.I ordered on Saturday afternoon, they showed up today, 3 days later.

I opened the Wave plus. The tool itself is all good. The sheath is a bit of a let down. The flap and the belt loop are crooked. The sheath should be functional, but these imperfections annoy the heck out of me. Compared to the dark brown OG Wave sheath, the leather and the thread are on the thinner side. Due to the single line stitching on the loop, I do not expect the loop will last long with all the pulling action on the belt, although the line is stiched 4 times. The tool fit perfectly inside. No room for bit clip.

I wonder if I should email a complaint to Leatherman about this sheath.

A bit on the plus side of the thin leather, the sheath conforms to the Charge shape immediately. I planned to take the sheath and the plier head for my TTi anyway.
