Hi from Greece... better late than never
on: November 21, 2008, 07:08:41 PM
Hi all.

I thought I'd take some time and introduce myself. My name is Nikos and I come from a village up in the mountains near Sparta, Greece. I've been lurking around these forums for the best part of the last couple of years but signed up only a couple of months ago. My first edc was a  small slip-joint gardener's pocket knife I got when I was in the 2nd grade of elementary school. From there I went to a Vic Executive and so it all begun. A couple of decades later, I've grown a small collection comprised of a handful of LM tools (PST, original Wave, Charge Ti and TTi, Skeletool), 7 or 8 SAKs and STs, a couple of Gerbers (MP400 and MP700 T3), a 440C Spyderench, an X-Tract, a couple of SwissTech tools, a BCB mini work tool, and an ages-old standard-issue Greek Army knife, along with various bit kits, tool adapters and assorted pouches... :) All of my knives and multitools were and are users, getting beaten up both at work (data centers, server rooms), around the house (home improvement, diy tasks, etc.), and out in the field (hiking, mountaineering, boondocking, military exercises, etc.) I've given away (as gifts) several of the above tools and have been thinking about putting some of the remaining up for grabs, but just can't convince myself I don't need those tools anymore... After all, there's no such thing as a useless tool (that statement being valid multiple times for a multi-tool... :))

BTW I'd like to thank the guys behind the mt.org site and these forums for giving us poor souls a place to meet and chat about our obsession.  :tu: :salute:

See ya all around the forums...

Welcome to the forum Nikos! By any chance are you the descendants of the Spartans?
To me, there is no such thing as a retired tool. I sometimes give them away to family and friends not because I don't want them its because I want to share the tools that had given me good service and happiness. :D

Welcome Nikos. I like to give away MTs and SAKs as presents at times as well. Keep your collection strong and post pics, and reviews. I for one would like to see a Greek army knife, your opinions on it and a review  :P

Thanks for the welcome guys. It's always nice being in good company.

@duckman1975: Yes, we are the descendants of the Spartans and proud of it, although Sparta is not the military and political power it used to be some thousands years ago; it now is a rather small and quiet city, even by Greek standards (~10-12k inhabitants).

I'll try to grab some photos of the remaining members of my mt family in the next "family reunion" as I'm away from home atm.

Is that a hard one or what? I can't really say... I have a soft spot for all of my multi's as I've been through a lot of stuff with every single one of them. My top two EDC combos at the moment are a TTi+Explorer for non-urban situations and a Spirit+MiniChamp when around nkp.

Safe and sound... No riots on the internet...  :D Seriously now, it's not as bad as it looks on the TV but it sure is ugly. I'll by accompanying my gf downtown tomorrow, as she's attending a univ class just a couple of blocks away from the main riot scenes and she doesn't feel safe without her mt guy... :multi: As a matter of fact, policemen are now much more dangerous to bypassers than anarchists, rioters, and the like, as they tend to overreact with all these (possible) boogies around them...

The only downtown shop (and the only one I know of in Athens) carrying SOGs and Spydies was looted during the riots... It was too expensive (more than twice the online prices and MSRPs) so I'd never buy anything off that shop, but it is a loss nevertheless...

BTW thanks for the interest guys...
