If Batman's been hiding in the Batcave for 27 years, hardly anyone is gonna remember what he looked like in the first place...

If you didn't use it for 27 years, and you're using it now then you did the right thing.

This is basically how I feel about it. It already feels "right" to be carrying it in my pocket right now!

It's the same SAK, with a different exterior... nothing's gone!
It’s still the same inside!
The scales are just clothes.

So... you'd be ok if Batman would wear Wonder Woman's clothes?!

Yup, it loooks good. If it were me, though, I'd buy a new one to mod and keep the old one.

Good job on the update.

Enjoy the revived tool and if possible reach out your uncle and share that after all this time you yet cherish his gift.  That makes it priceless!

If it were me, though, I'd buy a new one to mod and keep the old one.

That would mean spending even more money and the original problem would remain - namely, what to do with a 27-year-old Huntsman (a standard model and nothing particularly rare) which is never going to be worth a million dollars, no matter how many years it spends hiding from daylight.

That was my exact thought process. I didn't want to spend money for another and end up in the same spot. Now, even though the knife is modified, it will be getting used as intended, and to me that was the point.
