Rescued a beat up Leatherman c33Tx
on: May 19, 2018, 08:36:10 PM
Found this on eBay for very cheap...

The front scale is nasty and has the name “BONDS” scratched into it. Also on the blade and pocket clip.

I just happened to have a very nice c33 setting here at the house. So I transplanted my good blade, front scale and pocket clip to the eBay find...

Now I have a nice c33Tx. Or a c33 with tools!!

Haha

I don’t think anything can save that blade from the c33Tx though!

I worked on that mangled blade today with my Work Sharp sharpener. It is razor sharp. I think I’ll use it as my work knife. The tip is horrible. But not quite sure what to do with it.

I might blunt it even more to use as a light screwdriver or something. Or I’ll try to restore some sort of point.

I guess it just depends on how I seem to use it the most.

It sure is UGLY tho!!!  Haha!!

ITs got a recurve shape.  Maybe take some material off the spine towards the tip to meet the edge??  You can always sharpen the edge up towards the spine as well.  I've seen some pretty aggressive recurves and this certainly qualifies.

^^^   :tu:

Something like this

Good job on the sharpening, it's always useful to have a beater blade

I figured out what probably happened to this blade...

I realized it started life as a serrated blade. Those gouges are probably from the owner trying to sharpen the serrations.

Then, for whatever reason, that owner decided to just grind the blade down and get rid of the serrations.

Probably mangled the tip along the way and was trying to fix it.

Someone really destroyed that blade!    But it’s sharp now and will get used!

A nice beater for sure.  It does look as tho someone wasn't thrilled with serrations.  Nice work but more important is it'll get used.  You certainly wont be afraid to beat on it thats for sure.
