New Toy!
on: May 20, 2018, 11:27:39 PM
I finally got a chance to try out the Optimus 8R backpack stove I picked up awhile back.  This thing is fun!!  I found it thru a buddy's help online and won the bid.  I didn't realize it but with this guy I think I'm up to 6 camping stoves!

Very cool, but quit teasing us!   :pok:

What other stoves do you have, what specifically drew you to this one, is it what you were hoping for, what makes this one better than the other 5 etc?

Inquiring minds want to know!  Plus any other pics would be icing on the cake!  :D

Neat stove.  If its what I think it is I saw one several months ago.  Little box basically with a fuel container and wire rack for cooking??  I almost bought it but I wasn't sure it if worked or was missing anything.  Super neat tho.

I honestly don't know how I came to having this many myself, let alone the ones my boys have!  I'm my Army days, my wife, young son, sheepdog and I often made cross country trips on the cheap, and acquired the two burner Coleman propane stove from a buddy who had it in Europe when he was there.  Great family stove but a little large for a pack.  I picked up the Swedish stove ( The black, tall  stove with a pot and canteen cup included) from an outfit long out of business.  It's powered by a burner underneath that used denatured alcohol for fuel.  Great stove, but it burns until it's out of fuel.  The little black, square stove is German and runs off of fuel pellets as seen within it in this pic.  Probably the best backpack stove out there, but the pellets are sometimes hard to find.  I picked up the Tommy Cooker after watching a documentary on the Malayan War and seeing the guys brew water for tea while out on patrol.  Again, great stove but doesn't always get the hottest burn from the Sterno.  Lastly, the red stove is a Coleman back packer stove.  Brews water like nobody's business!  A buddy had one of the Optimus stoves and I liked the fact that it was small, lightweight, and can use anything for fuel that's flammable.  It's old school and fun to play with, but takes a little bit of time to get going due to having to prime it.  Kind of like my SAKs and M/Ts, it makes no sense but I absolutely love gadgets to play with :D :D

Nice stoves Barry

I have a Primus Classic and a Coleman Peak1 like yours. They operate on par with each other.

Finally , I've got an old standard Coleman 2 burner for car (Blayzah) camping

Very cool stoves!  Here are a few of mine:

Etekcity stove:

Coleman 431:

Bio-Lite stove:

Coleman Easi-Lite:

WhisperLite Internationale:

Svea Optima 123:

I've also got a small emergency Esbit Stove like this one, although I've never used it:

And a couple of weeks ago I picked up a vintage Coleman 425, in the original box which I believe is from the 60's.  I haven't got any photos of it yet, but it is really, really cool.  :D

With all of these stoves, is it any wonder I'm fat?  :P

Great stoves fellas  :tu:.  I finally gave one of mine away to a neighbor.  She is going thru a remodel and her house stove was going to be disconnected.  I was so happy to finally see one go.
